Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

I thought we were done with seasonal employees?

Isn't that what Walmart said? And yet, instead of giving us more hours, we got three more employees last month. What is that all about?

They might not be officially seasonal, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them gone very soon.

I guess Walmart is really good in finding loopholes to their own rules...

People are not getting fired based on their availability to work. They are not getting hours if there are not demand hours in the system when they are available to work, but not fired. That’s false. In fact company direction is to not do that.

If a person can not work when a company needs them then the company has to hire people who can. And the wage hours the new people get will be taken from those who could not work when needed. It’s perfectly logical and the only way to run a successful business.

Business are not social programs based around what works best for the employees but they are based on what works best for the customers.

If a person can not work the required hours they need to earn enough to survive because they can’t work when needed how on Earth is that the companies fault?

Wrong. Walmart will simply threaten to fire you if you don't comply with their schedule demands. Seen it happen----successfully, many times.

Most likely to cover shifts no one else is willing to work. It’s pretty common to hire based on that. I would bet it’s weekends and evening shifts they were hired for.

Stores had to fill those shifts and if no one is willing to fill them then they hire to do so. That In turns could lead to less hours for those unable to work those shifts of course.

Well, that's the direction they're going in---everybody will be 'seasonal' pretty soon!

And for following their own rules? Walmart makes them up as they go. Non contract, at will / right to work employment, who's gonna stop or sanction them?
