backing up what lemming22 said, that is ABSOLUTELY dead on. And there's the constant worry that your job's headed to Poland. Vague ...not threats, but comments, about jobs going over there. Noone really knows which ones for sure.
Morale (in IT, anyway) is DEFINITELY not high. It's the opposite of high.
Morale is definitely not high - well at least in my department. There's high turnover which is a pain at times, productivity is low because nobody cares anymore, and everybody just complains complains complains. Nobody truly wants to be here.
I have to say, that one of the things that struck me about my new gig after I left Viacom was how hands on and knowledgeable all levels of my new org are. There are very few SVPS/EVPS and not an absurd amount of VPs but even at those levels people really know what's going on in the trenches. There's a better way and Viacom would REALLY benefit from cleaning out at the top. Hell, they could use a quiz to find out how much folks at that level really know about what is going on in their department. I want Viacom to survive because once upon a time, I loved that place and it was the best job I had ever had. I hope it can get there again.
Great way to put it. It's not just tech either. All facets of this company are run by far too many managers that are essentially 'professional' emailers. They don't know how things operate and they contribute nothing while collecting large checks.
I'm in tech and have to keep it vague obviously. The morale is not good here. A pattern of major technology directions being initiated by one or two persons who leave for greener pastures as soon as that goes down hill. Big technology choices should be reviewed by some kind of informed committee, instead we are forced to follow old jocks with big egos off cliffs like lemmings. And tech is about 80% low wage H1Bs who say "yes" to everything because, well, they have to. Confusion reigns.

The morale is high among low-paid kids straight out of school, in other words.
As long as they keep getting RID of the old people. The better the morale. By OLD it means , people with over 15 years there. As I Write this I see an old timer here caught in OLD ways .That money s---ing person needs to GO! .Its terrible I say this . But its so true .
