Thread regarding CA Technologies (CA Inc.) layoffs

Are you badging in?

If you’re not sure you are staying or going, don’t give them cause. Make sure you badge into your local office. Not showing up is the same as job abandonment in the US.

My reason for not badging in: "I'm using my unlimited vacation time."

I'm doing the minimum right now but still doing my job. Once I find my status out if I still have a job i'll go back to doing more.

@VZ6FQ9E-btq I agree. The major part is avoiding litigation. I’m sure they also did deep analysis to make sure protected classes aren’t unfairly discriminated against.

They have also budgeted it into the acquisition costs.

At the same time, someone doing something stupid risks getting terminated for cause before getting severance. Severance is not a magic cloak. So people, don’t show up drunk, d--gged out, naked or do anything inappropriate until you get your letter. Don’t send nasty emails or post on social media, especially from the Broadcom network.

Broadcom is absolutely NOT looking for ways to avoid paying your severance. The severance is not for your benefit, it is for theirs. It has two purposes. 1) gets you to agree to give up any right to sue them, and 2) it lets them show remaining employees how well they’ll be treated when it’s their turn, thus helping with retention (i.e. making it more likely that Broadcom times your departure to fit their business needs). There is no way that they would risk that to nickel-and-dime you as you leave.

That would be pretty amazing if it changed things this week....

That said for those on transition or staying it might be an issue after Wednesday, though I doubt any of the Broadcom silliness can start until org charts are published and our managers are named.

Dude, this is completely irrelevant at this point. They have already decided who they want to keep and who will go, whether you badge in today or not has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Never thought of this, could they withhold severance and fire for cause?
