For those of us out of the office today, can anybody live post highlights and lowlights of the meeting?

Tale as old as time
True as it can be
Barely even friends
Then somebody bends
Unexpectedly
Just a little change
Small, to say the least
Both a little scared
Neither one prepared
Beauty and the beast
Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise
Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise
Tale as old as time
Tune as old as song
Bittersweet and strange
Finding you can change
Learning you were wrong
Certain as the sun
Certain as the sun
Rising in the east
Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the beast
Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the beast
Beauty and the beast
That is correct, AP wasn’t consolidated in the states and there were staff from a 3rd party (outsourced) already being trained by current AP staff. Aaaw that s---s, training your replacement must be stressful. Well I guess we have saved a lot by outsourcing the already lowest paid department in the company. What ever saves us penny should be ok LOL.
Al began boasting how consolidating accounts payable in “Houston” brought the costs down from $12 to $6 per item.
What was asked? What was said?

Al outright lied on the changes to Accounts Payable. It wasn’t consolidated to Houston, it was contracted out to India, with 6 management people in Houston.

Al outright lied on the changes to Accounts Payable. It wasn’t consolidated to Houston, it was contracted out to India, with 6 management people in Houston. That’s the first lie I noticed, I am sure there are many others. When I heard that, everything else had no credibility.
Well I thought it was funny that the only female member of the ELT wasn’t the one who fielded the gender equality question. So yes, please let us hear what the men are going to do regarding the issue - as if we didn’t already know. Love that the combined cost of the jersey and jacket exchanged were probably worth more than most merit increases.
It's a tale as old as time...
@RQjcWkq-1jfm - your comment makes me think that you don’t believe that women CAN bring knowledge, experience and the ability to deliver results along with their gender. As well, if you think an “ovary tower” is on the horizon, think again. Further, diversity of thought is needed... that was also part of the message.... this includes ‘young and old and majority and minority’ team members.
Everyone I talked to, male, female, majority or minority felt the emphasis on gender equality was over the top. Most employees fully support diversity and inclusion but the repetitive and overly contrived script didn’t feel genuine. It made many think they are resorting to quotas in lieu of knowledge, experience and ability to deliver results. It contradicts everything they’ve said previously about rewarding high performance. It totally alienated men and brings into question how many women are in leadership positions simply because of their gender rather than their performance. That was a disservice to many of our female leaders. In addition, many men, young and old, majority and minority, walked away from that meeting today saying they will have to take their energy and talents to other companies if they want to advance because at Enbridge, it appears gender is likely to trump performance going forward. I’m concerned we will lose much talent because of today’s meeting. It’s a shame because I thought Al did a great job talking about the business and strategy and made a good case for why change is necessary. It’s just hard to tell if the constant employee relations communication blunders are coming directly from the ELT or Is based on bad advice by HR & Internal Communications who, together, have proven over and over that they are totally out of touch with the employees. Hopefully the ELT will seek better advice in their future messaging before more harm is done.
I was happy to hear more transparency. still room for improvement but a step in the right direction. Everyone knows that there will be more layoffs so it was kind of a relief to actually hear Al admit it. I miss the old forums and happier atmosphere, but we will be back there soon.
I applaud the 5% pay cut from ELT. There was actually a bunch of earlier posts here that asked them to take a pay cut and they did, so why don't we applaud that. Maybe some of the whiners on here won't be happy until they work for free! haha
The joke did not land well especially coming from him and it showed how easily we can make mistakes - it's important to speak up so instead of berating him online, I am going to email him and share how the comment was inappropriate.
I found that comment completely inappropriate from a senior leader that is advocating respect.
“Beauty and the Beast” was the introductory opening line for a lengthy spiel on s-xual harassment?!?! And to think he acted utterly surprised when his attempt at humor totally flopped. That moment was so priceless it makes Crown Jewels look like a basket full of loonies (i.e. $1 Canadian Coin).
That comment was awful
Beauty and the beast was mentioned during s-xual harassment Lecture. 😂
Sorry about the double post. And yes, it was a Flame’s jersey. Both “gifts” were tacky to say the least. When is Big Al going to wear a customized 2017 Houston Astros commemoritive varsity jacket? Meanwhile we’re turning in our oil-soaked work gloves to our supervisor before he’ll supply new work gloves.
Please don't insult hockey fans. It was a Flames jersey.
I’m not really sure what else we could’ve expected them to say. They’re not going to go up on stage and project a negative forecast for the company. Unless I misunderstood, I’d summarize the whole 2 hours as such: a Cannuck’s Jersey was exchanged for an customized Astro’s coat (I assume both were purchased with company funds and will find a home in the back of a closet, never to be seen again), ELT members took a 5% pay cut this year (this wasn’t elaborated, so they probably just took 5% less merit increase than projected), positions will continue to be looked at in terms of reductions, we want to sell onshore renewable assets but want to continue expansion in European renewables, gender equality and equal pay and harassment are hot topics and at the forefront, Nexus and Line 3 replacement being delayed impacted metrics for stip and merit increases.
A couple members of the ELT looked quite nervous.
Layoffs will continue.
We're going to innovate.
"Western Canada" is the land of milk and honey so they have to get the best benefits. Just so happens the ELT lives there, pure coincidence.
The plan is to sell off $3B in on shore renewables this year. They'll do their best to make sure we the people go without the assets, but the point was clearly made that income from the sale is a bigger priority.
Big Al is one of us and took a whopping 5% cut, so he knows how we feel. Poor guy.
He also wants us to stop him when we see him and chat him up. I've never seen him on my floor though, do I go to his floor for that? Should have asked.
Just assume you're never getting promoted, but lateral moves are encouraged to cross train and make us better. We're supposed to do this while innovating and undergoing continual workforce reductions.
"Scorecard adjustments are rare" let's remember that for next year...
Don’t get comfortable, there’s no end in sight for workforce reductions. That’s the paraphrased version. Other touchy topics have been talked around when asked. Lot of talking in circles.
I figure they won’t say a lot especially about what assets are be sold off and to who.
I know they are currently taking bids for the midstream assets but have no idea on how long of a process that is.
