I just read a post that said the people in a certain department works 60 hours a week. In our area we don't work 60 hours a month! Most are paid much higher than the average hourly wage and we come here every day and spend most of the day on the internet ,shopping, and just sitting all day. Day after day. If they let 5 people go today, we wouldn't know they were gone. Total waste! I don't know where the concept of paying employees to do nothing came from. but Micron has perfected it

Layoffs will slow but will continue over the coming months. People have posted advice on the need to be pro active in terms of your working future. I would strongly heed that advice. Just when you think it can't happen to you it will.

Micron is and always has been a lousy place

To work. Poor management and good mood boys network is ruining the place. The influx of Middle East temp workers is a kick in the race to Idahoans wanting to work here and can’t get hired.

Mega junk company.

Yep closing assembly and test down in Boise. It’s been coming a long time. And of course there are no enough spots available in R&D to absorb the people.

Folks will get screwed on severance packages and the tax rate on these is a killer. Won’t be able to draw unemployment till severance runs out..

Then you will get taxed on unemployment. What about medical care? Can you say screwed right before the holidays ! Micron is famous for this crap

Worst company in Idaho to work for.

The Tech industry and layoffs go hand in hand. Many don't pay it any mind until it happens in their area or until it happens to them, but it is an ongoing process like this one will be over about the next 18 months or so. This is just he first wave. Micron in Boise has changed ; their focus requires a more skilled workforce lower end hourly is clearly on it's way out.

Micron is making some wise decisions now to increase efficiency and lower cost. Still it is not easy to see folks you have worked with for years in this position. Bottom line is you get paid to provide a service the company needs. You are not entitled to anything beyond that. It sounds hard but are you going to pay the lawn care service after you convert your lawn into a rock garden? Kinda the same thing.

Have a little sympathy for all the people who have been dedicated to Micron for 20-30 years plus and their families that this layoff will affect. It's not very nice to say I told you so.

I work in FAB 4 and we knew this was coming 2 years ago. How did you not see this coming? I have several friends who left those areas because they knew this was coming. Makes no sense to produce wafers in Asia, ship back to Boise, then ship back out again. Use your critical thinking skills.

Ironic, Red State that voted for Trump is loosing TECH Jobs to Asia. Where is the uproar? These are good people loosing good paying jobs. When is enough, enough? Meanwhile, the NEW CEO and his Buddies are going to rake in Big Bonuses. The systematic selling of America!

Yes the good ol' boys network needs purging for sure. Too many managers with no reports making six figures just hiding in the wings. Too many redundant management positions that are not needed. Hope they finally get it right and purge them.

If it was "several hundred" you'd never hear about it. It will be much higher.

All about the bottom line and return to shareholders. Lots of jobs to be shipped overseas such as accounting related positions - A/R, A/P, etc. Profit profit profit at any cost. Say goodbye to those high paying benefit rich jobs. Some will now have to buy their own insurance thru Obama care, Good luck with that high cost alternative. Good luck to all affected. :(

Hope them managers finally get what they have coming to them after all the bulling they have been doing over all the years. Especially the short little furry one!

Good luck to everyone except the leaders who are running out the individuals who worked so hard to make this company as profitable as announced today!
