If "collecting" or "negotiating" dues is the union's top priorities, then YOU would assume that the FASTER they can get a contract signed, the more they collect. The sooner the better. Right?
Then again, unless YOU agree and vote "yes", there is NO contract.
NO contract... no dues. PERIOD.
Technicians will have union reps and lawyers at the table, as well as a technician from every depot. So, while they are at the table, the union CAN NOT COLLECT DUES. They can sit on their butts for 2 years negotiating, and CAN'T collect a dime from you. The dues YOU pay are for services rendered, or performed. And their service is clear.... to make sure that a signed contract is enforced. Since there is no contract, the union can not perform a service. The contract signed and agreed upon describe the services to be rendered. But there is no contract. THEREFORE....... NO DUES. Think, people....... THINK!
Now, why would a company fight the collection of dues, meaning performing the deduction on your paychecks? Simple. It's all psychology.
If you knew that YOU would have to make a separate paycheck for union dues, then the onus would be on you. The word "onus" is used to refer to something that is one's duty or responsibility. YOU would have to make sure that your payment is on time. A pain in the butt. Imagine if the company never made the social security deduction for you? Another pain in the butt. Do you now get the point? And if you miss the payment, there are rules against you for that. The truth be said. But the company sees it as added inconvenience and argument to you. To get you angry for such an inconvenience. To get you pissed off. And then, to remind you of the penalties you'll incur if you don't pay on time. The two toughest emotions for any person to control is "fear" and "anger." When FEAR doesn't work..... ANGER is next. A simple strategy but effective. Politics works in the same manner. It's one thing to tell you that your "rights" are being threatened (fear). Or, I can tell you your rights will be taken away tomorrow (anger). In this environment, people get pissed if they forget to fart at exactly 3 in the afternoon. Incredible.
NOW DO YOU GET IT?
