Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

I was just laid off and escorted off the property, I have worked for 16 years and this is my thanks. 75 of us were laid off this week in Omaha.

The next round will be managers and TEY men and women. From what I was told Sr MTO, MTO, MYO will be next slashing those positions replacing them with Terminal Trainmasters. Union Pacific has notified The United States Goverment it will be doing a massive workforce reduction in Nebraska, Arkansas, Oregon, Texas and Louisanna. Almost to the tune of 7000 employees which is an increase of 1300 from 2009. Union Pacific operating ratio is still high regardless of the G55 push. Severe layoffs are coming and I would not be surprised if they do it before Christmas.

Most companies will walk individuals off the property some will give you a change to get your personals, others will say we will send them to you or you can pick them up tomorrow after whatever time). An office or a group all in one area will have their system, facility, & phone access disabled and then give then x minutes to collect their personals and security checks the box on your way out. Often done at the end of (or early before) a workday as a "mandatory meeting" when most other staff are not present. I have seen it happen more than once. Stupid thing is most organizations are doing it to move workers offshore which they were told they will save x dollars. In the end they find that they had huge savings in X, but had more expenses in Y & Z which made the offshoring just a movement of expenses. What they didn't see until later was the loss in customer retention due to poor service or increases in errors.

I'm sorry to hear this news for all of you affected.

Focus on the politics at hand within the UPRR. Drop the gov politics they don't control the UPRR business. UPRR is a gov all in it's own. I called them a communist government for a long time.

I expected to be a lifer like others in my family. Probably never would I have quit on my own. They controlled me and everyone else with virtual chain$ and everyone followed them around and did what they said. I was laid off in 1986ish, recalled for full time in 1989ish, HR wouldn't guarantee in writing or verbally anything, not full time, not permanent, just said if you want to go back to work here show up on Monday at .... I chose to resign since I had other ventures I was involved in.

IT WAS THE BEST THING I EVER DID! No regrets, there is life after UPRR. It may be a blessing in disguise. It was hard but in the long run what a stress reliever. Keep your options open and don't hang on to the past. If you have a passion (hopefully not the UPRR) follow it chase it. It may lead you to being a new reclaimed person.

Best of luck in the future and God Bless.

Is there any place other than the government where you can hang on to a job?

Remember when you told someone that there are layoffs where you work, and people would ask if your employer was in trouble? Sure, UP is facing diminished revenues, but super profitable companies have layoffs all the time. You aren't safe anywhere.

"Layoffs are the untold story. You wont hear the orange clown bragging about that at his pep rallies. FBI Director Comey was 10 times the man Trump could ever be."

What an absolute idiotic statement. Comey lied, had no evidence other than his word, and that makes him a better man? "Orange clown". No, your the clown. His hair is blond, he is a billionaire and the president, whether you like him or not. Get over it. Sick, twisted, sore lose loser liberal.

Someone below stated that layoffs don't usually require being escorted off the property. Depends on the company and the capacity of which you work. Ask any one from layoffs of 1999 and 2007-2009. Unisys gave you a box and 20 minutes to leave the premises or you were "escorted off". This was during the Burroughs and Sperry merger.

UP took care of their fat cats over the past 10 years with millions of dollars in options, healthcare to 65 and early retirement. What a joke.

Lets see: The economy is down you say and some are being laid off and there are few jobs AND you then beg to be laid off. I believe you are correct, someone with that screwed up thinking SHOULD be laid off.

to the person who posted "layoffs don't usually require one to be escorted off the property." you have no idea what you are talking about. At CSX every single person laid off is walked off the property by security. EVERYONE. This has been this way for the last 20 years.

In Texas, cameras are everywhere and are watching you like the CIA to fire you. We work hard and for many years. I have too many friends that are good workers that were let go for stupid things. The Union is not supporting us like in the pass. Why even pay for union dues if they don't have our backs. I don't recommend anyone to work there. Good workers are struggling with anxiety and stress. No sick pay or if injured unless paying for seperated insurance.

Everyday I ask myself why I continue to stay here. Everyday I put up with this circus. The economy is down, employment scarce, moral low and executive mgmt is weak. Weak Mgmt at the top.

Lay me off please lay me off!

Union Pacific executives said that they have trimmed the payroll by 11 percent in the past year and that they expect company workers to be even more efficient in the face of plummeting demand for freight hauling.

TOP HEAVY COMPANY.

Too Heavy at the top, should slash from the top then downwards, unsure about the post however rumors are rumors. Layoffs are coming, its not worth it working for this company that devalues women and minorities. As a former Vet this place is a disgrace.
