11 Months after the merge... the International is not settled yet, no decisions, people are leaving, no re-hires, more job then ever.. the ship is going down..
WHS group in its entirety is being sold off to a partner that has yet been unnamed. Layoffs occurring in Beaverton and Kirkland today to finalize end of June or early July. I speculate that the partner is interested in IP and customer base because the remaining team is too small and fragmented to ship the releases in progress. The writing has been on the wall for months, now the feces is hitting the fan.
Since management has made no attempt to squash the rumors going around I must assume they are correct. The office has returned to the eerie silence and hushed whispering in the halls that went on during the spring layoffs.
I noticed Rob's LinkedIn page says he's "on sabbatical" though he announced to everyone that he was retiring. I take that to mean he did not retire but was asked to depart and and is seeking new opportunities. So much bullshit and manipulation from these clowns.
The dominoes are falling. They cut too many people and underestimates the number who would get fed up with the toxic environment and leave. The US economy is strong at the moment and opportunities are out there for those with the right skills. Most folks have lost faith in Arris and have been looking for other opportunities while waiting for senior management to tell us if we will be let go. It's like the Dread Pirate Roberts, "So long and good night, I'll most likely kill you in the morning."
Not sure if people are quitting or if they just cut too many positions at once. I've seen 2 jobs posted on LinkedIn in the past week for the Lowell office (including my old job!). Not sure why they would be hiring after layoffs but who knows. No, I won't be going back.
They just need to fire Tom Mcshane, he is the source of so much toxicity and strife.
Rumor has it another round of layoffs is coming end of June. Kirkland office is likely to close as contractural obligations end and support is transitioned to other locations. On-site upper management has retired, receptionist eliminated, carpets cleaned, walls painted, cleaning out the closets and disposing of surplus equipment and furniture, the writing is on the wall. Several of the better engineers have left and several more are actively interviewing elsewhere.

The steady trickle of resignations continues, lots of people taking random "sick" days and returning miraculously fully recovered a day later. Still no word on what lies ahead for the rest of us but I believe we have dropped below the threshold required to complete our jobs, and are doomed to fail. Meanwhile the gross incompetence in Suwannee continues.

just like Frustrated_anonymous comment below. This policy to keep the same mid level managers for years and years is from GI days and needs to change. Managers are operating well below par. Many of them don't even have management degrees and are clueless on how to be an effective manager. Hire better ones if you want to bring the company back on innovation. The current engineering workforce is good and filtered through layoffs but the people managing them are living in 2005.

Around 17 employees were asked to leave Pace Bangalore and this layoffs were only at Engineers (Technical) level, none of the managers were affected even though they don't have right skills to execute project. Lot of dependencies around mid level employees to execute project while they are kept away during critical decisions. Already many skilled employees had left Pace and are in process of leaving because of these existing managers. Employees will not be recognized even if you show technical skills and execute projects successfully to closure.
It is high time now and companies should look at Technical/Managerial skills rather than operating cost.
All hands meeting in kwa was the least informative so far. Jabba and the Scottsman blathering about their personal friendship and rob retiring in may. A timeline showing present projects and deadlines with tbd after 16-June. It does not bode well.
Look how staff:supervisor ratio has now worsen? They got rid of staff but the titled managers are still hanging around doing nothing or duplicating work some other person is already doing (hint: connections). Fix your supervisor to staff ratio first. Still too heavy in the middle - the benefits suck, it doesn't trickle down to the bottom who usually does 95% of the hard labor.

My prediction, layoff this summer at the smaller locations as the projects underway wrap up. There will be a significantly larger percentage coming from the old Pace sites.
What do we need Boca, Nevada City, Austin and all the all small development sites for?

After the summer big lay off, expect an annual cleansing every year around the end if the fiscal year. It's how big companies operate. This will continue until uncle Bob and his Sr executive team are replaced.

If you listen carefully to what they say, it's "the planned layoffs are complete and everyone has been notified". They don't say there are not be more rounds of layoffs being planned, and there will be, you can bet on it.

So I get to do my bosses job now for the same pay while he has a years paid vacation, plus unemployment, plus bonus, plus accumulated PTO - awesome! I guess that is the definition of synergy! Actually hoping the next round is sooner rather than later! I'll take half his going away package and be happy!
I showed that email to my wife. The look on her face was priceless.
Of course we are all angry with the "synergy actions" and move to improve "organizational efficiencies"... Having said that, this set-top business is going down fast (hear the draining sound?) and no amount of layoffs is going to change that... We need to "upgrade" our skill-set and it is really hard when you are in your late 40s :-( But that is the fact - I am sure another bad quarter as already predicted, and we will see more cutbacks.

"The majority of those already notified..." As we all suspected this is round one, and reading between the lines here strongly suggests there is another round that has been decided but not notified.
Morale is in the dumps at my location too. Nobody knows what the hell is going on and a number of people have confided that they are interviewing elsewhere.

Pace Austin hit as well. A large number of development and test people had left on their own since the merger was announced. They could see the writing on the wall. Despite losing more than 1/2 the team voluntarily they still cut more people. Just a shell left.

I for one was ready to move onto something new and the recent events were just what I needed to spur me on. The way it was handled was horrible though. I agree completely with those who have said Arris senior management and HR are completely incompetent.
Speaking only for pace, we have products in many lines not only STBs. For the few years I have worked with the company we have adapted quite well to the changing market
