Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Bonuses

I’ve heard that there will be very small bonuses at SBA Canada this year, maybe none at all - could that be true? Our president MM always says how great we are doing though we are missing our sales targets. What’s the truth? And has anybody heard about potential layoffs in Canada?

to nym+12UMJD7y & 8ifx+12UMJD7y you both mention IPO puhleaze there will not be an IPO this year or ever. What would an investor come up with for a value to justify a purchase of stock? the company is for all intents and purposes WORTHLE$$. People need a reality check, no purchase of WB Mason and no IPO just a trip to bankruptcy court.

I am in the industry at OD, it’s the same over here. Get out of the industry while you can their is no reason to stay. We are in the best economy ever and the stock market Is through the roof and this supply industry is dead with no profits left and way to much competition. Wish all of you good luck.

I worked for Staples for 17 years, through the good years in the beginning where we made money hand over fist, and through the rough years where some years there were no bonuses at all paid out. It always felt like a kick in the pants because our salary was lower than industry standard but the promise of a 15% bonus was pretty rich. I’m glad I now work for another company that pays competitively in the base, and has a lower bonus. It nets out higher in the end and you don’t have to feel like you have your hat in your hand, lucky to get paid an even partial bonus like you somehow haven’t already earned it. You get a lower salary in hopes of that unicorn bonus. Staples treated me well though for years and honestly I have no sour grapes at all. Some of the best people and best culture I ever worked in during those golden years. There is life outside of there, believe me. Good luck everyone!

CCO needs to go

NAD is going to miss by a lot. JH is going to be under huge pressure to keep MM in her role, given the last year’s terrible results. If she doesn’t fire her, JL will question if she is the right CCO.

And don’t be surprised if SBA Canada is sold to Canada Retail as a way to get more cost savings out for SP - they want to cash out a bit more before heading to IPO.

It’s two weeks to go, and sales are weak. It doesn’t look promising.

No one on this forum can tell you if you will be getting a bonus. The year isn't over yet.

Yeah - as your manager knows whether you’re getting a bonus or not!

All the mixed messages are adding to the confusion. People want to know, anonymously, if there is a bonus coming and/or a RIF on the horizon. You can’t go ask your manager that, which is why people use this forum.

just talk to your manager, it's 1000% better than posting in a forum like this.

NAD is Staples Inc. which is Staples Delivery, Staples.com, HiTouch, Quill, SPP (US and Canada), and SBA Canada.

NAD is NOT Staples Retail US, or Staples Canada (stores and staples.ca) - both are separate businesses from Staples Inc.

We've been told at NAD that we're dangerously close to the 50% cutoff where we could possibly not get a bonus

I have heard they are coming the 10th Feb. If SD wants to IPO this year, he needs to take out more costs. Expect to see a lot of cuts across every area. BTW, I also hear that the COO is expected to cut all senior leaders that don’t hit ALL their numbers. Or she’ll be cut too.
