Thread regarding Alliance Data Systems Corp. layoffs

October 2019 layoffs possible?

Does anyone have any information on possible Layoffs? Multiple people were told to cancel all meetings for this Wednesday. The quarterly earnings call is this Thursday. This can’t be a good sign....

What is the procedure when ADS terminates you? Is your meeting a mass meeting or one on one with a manager? Is it scheduled ahead of time or are you told to go into training?

Just looked at the job postings in the web site and two of the positions that were cut in my former department are now posted for hiring...in India. So much for that promise when Bangalore opened that “no one’s job is being moved to India.” Waiting to see my former role posted there too.

So now what’s really weird is the CEO is replaced by her oncoming Deputy chief and to Top that off he comes from a company (Citi Bank) who with his strategic plans has opened up the doorways to outsourcing jobs to overseas. If this is not a sign I don’t know what is!!!! And not to mention he starts in February 2020, what’s up with that, why didn’t they just keep Melisa til then? Duh go figure ... it makes sense she already has her name tagged to the 300 layoffs so let’s give her a break an still let her go out with some compassion. Quarter 4 ends December, with that being said this means a whole new aspect of more layoffs to come. Especially who cares if the acting CEO comes in and lays off many more... his name won’t go down in history as being the bad guy, like Melisa was. Then BOOM... Ralph Andretta comes into his new role 2 months later, after the storm has passed and many are left jobless...I’m telling you wake up ADS employees this sh– is getting real!!!! GOD BLESS US ALL!

They announced today opening another care center in the Philippines. I assume this can only mean more layoffs. I've only been with ADS for 3 years and it is crazy how vastly different the culture is from when I started. It is toxic. Those of us who are on the phones had "manager conversations" where they told us, and I quote, "a good call is no longer a good call." So they start our busiest season, where we are under more stress than any other time of the year, by announcing layoffs, give us the added stress of losing our jobs due to outsourcing, and expect us to be better than we've ever been. It is so funny because we are constantly critiqued for appealing to the "human needs" of the customers that we speak to, but Alliance Data does not care at all about our human needs. Every call has to be perfect, we aren't allowed to have emotions, we are expected to take abuse from customers sitting down, and will be put on final warning instantly for even having a raised tone of voice. They are basically asking us to be robots. I guess we should come to expect that they don't want us to be humans ourselves when the executives and leadership in this organization are clearly inhuman themselves.

Have any work at home Care and Collections associates been laid off? Did they bring each person into the office to notify or were some notifications done via remote meetings?

People are working crazy hours now and not being compensated extra because the workload has increased substantially. Trying to squeeze more out of less workers is a sure fire way to increase morale!

The latest rumors are that Westerville will be closing. Care and collections going to Broad Street and Account Protection going to Easton.

The manner in which ADS handled the layoffs was repulsive. Also, extremely poor taste of ADS to have a Diwala celebration the following week. Really??? This seemed like an appropriate thing to do after a massive layoff. And why are they celebrating a Hindu religious ceremony.

Pretty sure MM was not the CEO when certain decisions were made over the course of the last 5 years during period of hyper-growth that was obviously unsustainable over the long term. Company invested in new markets/clients that failed, Epsilon sale, purchase & expansion of facilities, and extensive hiring were decisions made prior to 2019 (EH). Combined with the timing of pending recession and a brick & mortar retail market that is dying impacting many of our clients, MM was left to make tough decisions to correct the errors of the past and move forward in a more stable direction for long term growth. Facts matter, may not like the decisions, but they certainly are the result of MM's decision making at the helm as some have accused her of here.

A lot of leaders in the phone centers that were let go where either on leave or recently used leave or FMLA.
Not surprised and I hope those affected figure it out. It’s not hard, it took me and a coworker 1 day.
I remember sitting in new hire hearing everyone talk about how different the culture was. Shady that’s the culture. No different. I am looking for other employment immediately.

Alliance Data is all smoke and mirrors. The executives made bad decisions (after losing Ed, whom was the only exec that cared about the associates). Their mistakes and lies they fed to the investors came to the forefront and the only way to save face was to make cuts. Now, in 2008 there were financial problems and Ed fixed them by cutting executive salaries, NO lay-offs. Let me repeat, NO lay-offs. With Melisa at the helm the executives kept their high paying jobs and the company pays for their second homes in Columbus and flights to and from their homes in Colorado, California and Utah and in some cases company cars. The execs will still be able to wear their designer clothes, live in luxury homes and drive their Teslas. Shame on them for confusing their priorities and putting their lifestyles above the middle class, hard working associates trying to keep a roof over their heads and food on the tables of their families. I wouldn’t want to continue to work for a company with no heart. So much for the culture they brag about.

The Good old Boy network at ADS let go a contact center manager because she wasn’t “one of them”. They were threatened by her for years because she out worked and had more passion they that did.

And she just got back from maternity leave go get her pink slip. I guess that should have nothing to do with it but it’s a kick in the jewels for certain

Yes you are eligible for unemployment. You got laid off and unemployment has nothing to to with whether you got a severance. Apply as soon as you can as it may take a few weeks to kick in.

HR Leaders, this is a fail on your part. You trusted bias leaders to make “a list”. You have to do better!
Melissa Miller, you lost some of the most loyal and talented employees because you have allowed the “good ol boy” and “mean girl” club to thrive in your organization.
I pray Alliance Data go back to the core values they once held dear. I miss working for a company I can believe in.
The people holding Alliance Data back are still there, some of them created “the list” you can’t see it because you somehow confuse their tenure with talent. I watched a hardworking leader be let go out of spite and I am sure there were more. You have to live with that.
The old way of doing things will not move Alliance Data forward. I pray you open your eyes before it’s too late. A lot of us still believe it’s possible.

Melissa has made so many mistakes. The employees are the ones who suffer from her incompetence. Has she made a deal to make the company any money in the past 3 years... Dear Board can we see if Jack Welch is doing anything in his spare time? Time for a upgrade.

I just got word that a Manager in one of the call centers in Columbus was one of the ones that got laid off. She was literally one of the best employees I have ever worked with and if I had my own company I would hire her in just about any capacity

This is proof that their was backstabbing going in to save their own jobs as she was certainly a threat to many of the stiffs in her department. I am just saddened by this news and the fact management was so blind to her dedication and passion for her job. It’s a lose lose in this case but she will land on higher ground. Shame on ADS. I hope their stock crashes even more.

To the associates/leads/supervisors/managers let go....my heart goes out to you as I can imagine how difficult it was receiving that news. To the employed...my projection with many companies is simple...ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE has no human empathy, a one time fee with scheduled maintenance, and can work efficiently and timely. For many companies this will be ideal and save much money and less room for error. Unfortunately Alliance will not be the only company to see the benefit in this. Second...many private label cards cannot sustain the move to online convenience and will tank and bankrupt. Third a large attempt to convert everything under one major system will be the next step...there will no longer be competition amongst institutions...but one large controllable system with the least amount of human hands all in the name of efficiency and privacy. So my opinion hope for the best expect the worst...find a career where human hands are a must.

Wow Chase and BOA are no where as visible or strong as they once were in the USA. We are seeing many other banks coming up. First Interstate is popping up everywhere lately. I can tell you that I like being able to speak to someone in US I do not like when I get a tech person from another country. But at least I do not have to worry about my personal sensitive data going to a foreign country for tech support. If I find out any of my credit cards are offshoring my personal information I will close them down and request that all of my information is permanently deleted

I am totally against the offshore jobs. But if we think about it, ADS just joined the party. All biggies like Chase,Bofa and others have been doing this for Years. This is just inevitable no matter whichever private company we work for.

Very sad that Alliance Data can no longer afford to hire in the U.S.A. this must also be a troubling sign for investors that they NEED to offshore to stay a float. If customers ever found out all of there sensitive data was being shipped offshore they would leave in droves. And yes I too have been told more than once it is wonderful to get to speak to a person that can understand me and that I can understand. I would not want people to have my full SS offshore. Laws in other countries are different and much weaker. Employees in other countries do not have the risk of going to jail if they steel that information and US has no jurisdiction over there. So the only logical answer why Alliance Data would risk doing this is that they are in worse shape than they are stating and CAN NOT afford to keep information and employment in the US

The language barrier and understanding of the American financial institutions is non existent with the site in India and the third party center in Mexico called teleperformance who also took a bunch of American jobs. It’s all down hill from here. You can’t even have the associates explain a late fee or a payment due date, so how the heck do you expect to keep loyal clients and customers? This company always prided it self on having jobs in America and not outsourcing, but yet here we are... losing our jobs to these incompetent people. I don’t care “how many degrees they have”. That means nothing if you can’t even service a customer appropriately. We are everything we said we wouldn’t be.

Various reps have been told by customers that they are calling in and getting someone from India. First of all, why are the incoming calls being routed overseas?!? The customers are frustrated with the language barriers and no knowledge of their accounts as the primary complaints. Some people chose to close their ♦️ cards.

Guess I’ll look for a job at Alliance Data Bangalore, they’re hiring! We were told that we were not loosing our jobs to Bangalore. How much money was spent creating Alliance Data Bangalore? No one is mentioning this. Look around and see how many empty cubes are in all the buildings. Higher ups have no clue how to balance the books. This lay-off is only a temporary financial solution, and the business, clients, and associates are going to suffer big time. Good luck outsourcing my work to Bangalore, they can barely handle the simple work they do now without holding their hand the whole way.

And the stock took a nose dive! Do not kid yourself, there will be more. They said in April after laying off Akron and others that there would be no more. Watch the stock, the more it dives the more chance for more lay offs.
