Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

What is the method of the layoffs recently?

I really can’t tell. Layoffs are happening at various locations, furloughs as well, various types of employees affected, various pay grades…..Does anyone have any idea what methods and what logic do they use to decide what employees are going to be cut?

UPRR used to be a career and now its a temp agency.

There are no careers at UNP anymore.

20 plus year employees being put on the street every month, and they foolishly thought they had careers with retirement.

Now, none of them will ever draw a dime of what they paid into railroad retirement.

Oh, but hey, the mighty shareholders and the wealthiest are doing just splendidly, just like before thousands of families were decimated by greed.

It’s a popularity contest, if you kiss enough a– there’s a chance you’ll keep your job. Or if they cut your job they’ll find another job somewhere else and they’ll give you a moving package.

correct. they don't want the bad publicity that came with walking people out en masse. they will continue to lay off in small amounts while donating to local charities and smiling like id–ts.

Their strategy is to apply small cuts frequently and to spread them throughout the system.

By making the cuts in that way it avoids potentially bad public relations, and it allows them to make the cuts in a more targeted way to meet location-specific performance goals.

My advice to anyone still employed there is to update your resume with marketable and transferable skills and to begin applying to other jobs, if you haven't already done so.

I think JzoZ-ror is correct. They are cutting those that will cost them the most in salaries or other benefits. Those make the most tend to be over 40.
