Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Stop terrifying us SteveM!!!!

Terror. Verb. To ceate and maintain a state of extreme fear and distress in (someone); fill with terror.

This is what you have created by announcing to the world you will be taking our jobs. Yet, it is taking you months!

This is your first act as CEO, and those who remain at TD will never forget the terror you created during a pandemic.

The ELT wants the rank and file to be scared. They want to exploit you. Accept that Steve doesn’t care about you. He cares about his bonus.

The middle managers are all "Applauding him for transparency." Democracy ended in Star Wars III to the sound of thunderous applause too. Am I glad I know a layoff is coming, vs suprise survivor days?
Yes, I was, however the piss poor execution of this rookie CEO is turning out to be worse. Rather than a few days of "OH MY LORD" now it is a few months of it. Compounded with the vague timeline, lack of direction, and silence, my productivity fractured to say the least. We are already stressed thanks to the legions of impact from Covid. Steve's first act was "Great Q2! We still s—, and I need to fire a ton of you now." That good feeling, after 3 years of BS transformation talk, the first good win we've had...was utterly shat upon so brutally. Then I am reading he hired a new ELT "Strategy" member...well there went another 10-15 jobs to afford his desk. It was soul crushing, I was out in public when I read it and yelled "You have got to be EFFING kidding me!" Oh, but they carefully looked at all internal candidates. I don't know how much longer I can listen to the executioner sharpening his ax, and wondering when or if me or my amazing colleges are going to be taken to the block.

Cost in line? He just brought back some old thinking who was let go 3 years ago to now be VP of Competitive Intelligence and today hired a Chief Strategy Officer (ELT member), both positions we really needed while the rank and file are under the black layoff cloud. Good moves Steve!

The restructuring would be more credible if it also included a growth plan, i.e., cutting costs so that the company is in a stronger position to generate revenue as it had in its glory days. Without this, layoffs will continue to mitigate the impact on the bottom line, as the top line continues to diminish. That is, the company would be playing a zero-sum game, barely keeping its head above water, until it finally sinks.

@xhb+173rxY2V fully agree. This will save Teradata (at least give it few more years to change the tide). There is no other way around, the restructuring must take place. I wish it would kick out all these big names, high salary folks that names pop up all around this forum... Reality is that it will affect us, file and ranks employees. I am sorry for everyone affected...

Transparency is always welcomed. But needs to be followed by timely actions so people get on with their life.

not true... it seems you never know how a business works... Steve is just saving the company... you need to put your self in his shoes as a CEO... he is fixing the company for the benefit of all...

we know everyone if affected even me. Think about it, if it's for the best of everyone, then better to accept your fate. we have a big world out there and it's just a matter of time until we find a new job. move on lads!

spread the positivity, not the negativity. we are all in this together!

Plans for layoffs probably started before SM was hired. The transparency is good.
