The EWA staff that has endured probably the worst end of the stick in this fight, Is growing tired of the absolute disregard for them. It's become obvious now to the EWA people that the leadership does not care about their situation, even to tell them just the simple truth. They have lives at home that are being ignored. All the while they are being pressured to do more work. They live in hotels, work 12 hour shifts, told their not good enough, and are away from there loved one's. Soon no amount of money is going to replace the time lost to this fight. The Union Staff are home with their loved one's, and so is the Leaderships. So who really is the losers here?. They are temp employees, soon to be unemployed after being used and abused.

Agreed. Just like this battle between political parties, the average joe gets all wrapped up in it, instead of being unified with their brothers and sisters, they join the fight and we all lose. All Verizon employees lose here. There are no winners. Just like in politics. It's about them, not us. We join in the fight and lose our unity. We need to respect our co workers on both sides of this thing and recognize that the folks in the leadership roles could care less about any of us. We are just a way to a means. It's a horrible thing and I don't think any of us recognize how bad this all is. I for one, respect my coworkers, regardless of our differences. We all have to make choices and it's not for me to criticize your choice.
The employees are the only losers. Both sides. EWA workers, tired, away from family, overworked...union employees on strike, no money coming in, job future in question. CWA leadership & Verizon leadership, still get paid during this battle. It's the middle class worker that is always screwed. I'm tired of working these crazy hours on EWA assignment. I'm missing out on Spring, my family and caring for my sick parent. I won't however be part of disrespecting my co workers who are on the opposite end of this. We'll all just doing what we have to, to keep our jobs. It's not right for union members to harass management workers filling in as required by the company. Just as it's not right for EWA workers to criticize their striking co-workers. Lets just hope this all comes to an end soon and we can become a unified workforce. Lets respect what each of us has to do and not get caught up in this CWA/Verizon fight, where we are the only victims.
@H8cHxJI-ixm , Why do you care? Take care of yourself. No money out of your pocket what the union says and does. Sounds as if your a cheerleader.
Getting ready for the next wave of EWA replacements and contractors. This could go on for months. Wonder how long the union can hold out. Wait a sec, the union execs are still getting paid, aren't they? So they can do this as long as they can keep sucking the life out of the membership.
The EWA are employees with families that do not want to be doing EWA. If they don't, they get fired so I guess as long as we save union jobs, it's ok that other families suffer. Wow, awesome, way to think it through without emotion.
I guess that's what you get from people with a 4th grade mentality. Unions served a purpose in the 20s, 30s and 40s. They are meaningless today. The union fat cats are laughing their tails off because people are stupid enough to pay dues that let them live like the fat cats in VZ management! There is on difference except for the hate and vitriol spewed but union leaders.
And for all the folks that like to say that Lowell makes big bucks... so what? I'd like to have the bucks that any pro athlete has but ENVYING what someone else has gets you nowhere. Go start your own business and hire union idiots to work for you, that would be eye opening, huh?
There is NOTHING that says you have to work for a company that won't give you what you want... read that again... and either start your own business or go work for someone who will give you what you want.
So respond to this post with some pissy comments and go grab your signs and bull horns and show the world the mentality of UNION workers.
ITT tech isn't an accredited college.
@gby. I know exactly whst you mean. I have head hunters calling me several times a day offering these amazing high paying jobs!!! They offer me signing bonuses with all these amazing perks!!!! As a matter of fact, Yahoo! Just called me yesterday and offered me the CEO job. They couldn't understand why such a marketable guy like myself would stick with such a piss poor company like Verizon. I had to decline though, i was having too much fun climbing ladders on my EWA that I had to pass it up.
YES I chained myself to one company. I will be walking out of it with a 401K that has almost 1M (27 yrs in the company) I will have lifetime medical....I will have a Monthly pension....I will have Social Security....I will have savings. I will sell my house here in New York, now worth 900,000 and buy a condo in a warm weather state for a quarter of that. I will be set for life.....These are the facts, Will this company, or the dozen or so you will work for do the same? Will you have a retirement the matches mine? For your sake I hope so, But i'm Very happy with mine...Thank you CWA not Verizon.
fxi -- I understand that you are projecting because the Wal-Mart/McDonalds/Whataburger types of jobs are what you would be doing if it weren't for the union job.
For those of us who are educated, there is a great deal of opportunity out there. You probably wouldn't understand it, but we tend to get headhunter calls once or twice per week. Don't feel bad, I don't expect you to understand how it works.
That's the great thing about being professional and educated -- we have numerous opportunities and don't have to try and chain ourselves to one company via a union in order to have a job. And at this level there is more pressure on the company to pay us higher salaries because if they don't we leave and go work other places. Unfortunately you don't have that luxury so you have to try and extort the company to pay you a decent wage through the union.
Best of luck!
@dfb. Definitely. A marketable guy like you would make a great Walmart Manager!!! 30k to start and once you hit 40k they will let you go... And than you can take all thise marketable skills to the next low level management job at another corporation and wash, rinse,repeat...
So what if they RIF? The severance packages are great and I'm marketable enough to find another opportunity quickly so the net of it would be additional money in my pocket. I'd gladly take a package if it were offered; between the severance and all the cash I'm making in EWA I'll be set for quite some time.
Rif posts by the Tokyo Rose union members are little more than nonsense. There are always some Rifs every quarter. BFD. The vast majority of us will be untouched. If we are hit with the rif, the severance package is not all that bad.
Enjoy it guys. Be sure to save for the up coming RIF. You know it is coming. Everyday that you are here is another day your boss can't cover that excuse he has been using for justify your current job. Lets be honest, he covers your pathetic "hands-off, soon to be outsources to India job" because it justifies his existence and position. All that is exposed now; with every passing day. There is lesson here and that is that have learned that the only safe job in America is the one you have to physically touch. I mean no disrespect and I feel for you. But you and I both know this to be true. Just remember this on the day of your RIF, the union worker of CWA wants to protect American jobs. That means yours too.
yes ewa does suck. yes walking through pickets lInes suck. many of the Picketers don't seem to know that ewa's are existing employees based on the questions posed. we are all aware of vz history of rifs and consolidation of groups. this is strictly a monetary exchange and we are being rewarded with not the highest expectations.
the union is under estimatIng pocket depth and the amount of money and will it's throwing at this venture. it's about priming this busiNess unit for sale. vz wants to be a content company and collect revenue from minimal infrastructure. it's impossible to divorce yourself from this wireline burden with dangling union social contracts.
vz is moving on with or without the union. the union will decide amongst themselves which ones will decide to stick around.
the union will receive a sh-- contract and that is evitable. if you're waiting around for the demise you may be waiting a long time. the wireline is not even factored into as a contributer of revenue. the fact is investment bankers own verizon not inviduals or 401k participates.
Wallstreet despise organized labor and that's a sad fact in our society. this is why these strikes are nothing but a footnote.
so suck it up and look to your left or right one of you will not be with vz in year from now. perhaps you will be a contractor or working for frontier or some big pool of skilled labor servicing multiplease providers.
good luck to all to we are in the same boat with a sociopathic captain.
Let the EWA Staff sleep please......12 hours tomorrow. long day. Sleep tight. Sweet dreams.
#admin CWA trash talking out their sphincters again.
You EWA people say this now..........lets hear your tune 2-3 months from now.
Unfortunately , as many of the EWA'S wives start asking for divorces in the upcoming months. Alimony payments will be based upon the wages earned during the strike.
It's so easy to spot a craft posing as ewa poster. Content and class of prose exposes them.
Anyways this claim is a JOKE. Everyone in my CO , just as earlier post stated, is extremely content with the task, the pay, the meals, the hotels, the experience . Also can validate that the one drawback is their forced day off versus working more easy money overtime.
This sh!t is cake. We're happy to enjoy it.
You guys bemoan all you want.
No worries here.
My understanding is that union has been working almost the same schedule since you've been forced so much overtime for years, so I think I can handle it for a few months. Thanks for the concern though. Oh, and BTW I just graduated from college in December and don't have a significant other so I'm ok. 4 others who were in my training also got put on EWA just like me before we ever even started our 'real' jobs.
I STRONGLY disagree that the EWA people are getting the worst end of the deal. I am doubling my already six figure salary doing a job that takes basically no brain function to do. Yes it's a lot of hours, but it's not stressful and I'm making a bundle of money.
A few weeks from now I'll barely remember the extra hours I worked, but I'll still have a boatload of extra cash in my bank account.
It's just my opinion but I think the EWA people are the big winners in the whole deal.
Let the EWA STAFF sleep people, they have another Long day tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day....Oh yeah....Here come's the WEEKEND!!!!!!
Thats ok. While your making $$$$ your wife or husband is getting fed up, going out meeting new "friends" and when you get served your divorce papers, drag you through the courts using your new found income. Knock yourselves out scabs. Only so much loneliness your significant other can take before they stray.
Don't worry about Lowell. He's fat, dumb, healthy and multi rich in Mendham NJ.
There you go guy.....You'll have all summer then........Me Too!
Union said definitely though the summer.
I have no idea where you are sourcing your info from but I can tell you that in the shop I'm working, every EWA person's only complaint is that the company is forcing us takeep 1 day off every 2 weeks which cuts in to the double time pay. Everyone I work with is hoping that this stretches out for at least a month.
Wrong.....Wife works...will soon be collecting unemployment, and that on top of what i get from the National and My local......I will be getting almost what i was making, for doing NOTHING! ............LET THE STRIKE CONTINUE! ...Get my work done EWA STAFF your doing a great job! Thanks :)
"union staff is home with their loved ones"
While bringing home zero paychecks yet the winners here...ok
