Thread regarding 7-Eleven, Inc. layoffs

From the field

The past few years have been extremely challenging with covid and labor shortages. Field operations extremely stressed. Laying off area leaders is very surprising as current area leaders are taking on more, no pay increases, more stress with increase responsibility. A lot of turnover in the ranks in the field preceding this weeks announcement. I really think it’s going to get very ugly in the field as 7-11 doesn’t understand company operations like Speedway did. Laying off 90% field support and putting it on current area leaders and store leaders may be the breaking point. . I will have no regrets when ALs/SLs begin seeking other opportunities and seeing 7-11 crumble. I really think the wisdom from executive leadership making these tough decisions is lacking substantially. Maybe they have the first rollout of the Tesla robots to replace outgoing area leaders and store leaders. Who knows. The arrogance is really disappointing. Do no harm…. Lol

Value act presented on and pressured leadership to make substantial cuts to FT employees. The presentation compared Speedway and 7-11 FT employees to Murphy and Casey’s . Murphy run kiosks, Casey’s stores much smaller and in small towns. Comparing apples to oranges IMO. Wait and see what damage will likely occur. More support = more success. I know it’s a numbers game, but value act may want to come run an area or store with the current labor model and get an understanding of what it takes to run these stores. Speedway inside sales probably doubled the average Murphy or Casey’s stores. Wait and see what damage has been done then self correct???

7-Eleven finalized their acquisition of Speedway last year in May. Speedway is a competing gas station convenience chain with 3,900 locations. And had more than 40,000 employees in 2018 before the merger.

They clearly let a full fiscal year [July 1st - June 30th] go by. Then the accountants look at the numbers. Close the weaker store in markets where they are in direct competition with one another. Don't need two stores, don't need two teams of employees.

The fact is 7-11 is not about people. They are all about MONEY. Your years of service are not valued or honored. You have been a number only. The toxic environment that exists is a direct result of callous greed and survival instincts of people in power. Take your pride and dignity and don’t look back. Good luck everyone RIF’d. Reduction in Force = Destroy Careers/People without Regard.

I'm so confused. We've had zero discussion in my market. We know the FIMS are gone but that's it. As an AL, we've heard nothing good or bad.

Was it the franchise ALs/Business Consultants that were laid off? As a corporate AL, I don't know if I'm safe or will face the news shortly.
