Thread regarding Optum layoffs

How many employees planning to leave this year?

We know bonuses will be very low this year. How many are timing it right to leave soon after bonuses are paid?

Oh man I didn't know that they used to offer money with Bravo. I've been wondering what's the point of getting those Bravos and why I wasn't gaining any points. I had been thinking that maybe my Bravos weren't good enough but now I know! Su-ks!!

The place is a monumental disaster, just wish it would implode. There will be layoffs, that's for certain. Part of the goal is attrition due to no raises and minimal, if any bonuses; the attrition would be organic downsizing to help minimize layoffs. However, there will be massive layoffs coming. This place is a health hazard. GET out , you will be glad you did.

I think we have to be honest, I did see my team’s RRP and merits increase last year. Everyone was pleasantly surprised. Maybe not an amount you would have expected with the elimination of the Bravo cash but we were all happy last year under Dr Darr. I think that’s what the shock will be this time around. Folks will be expecting more or the same as last year this time.

Annual raises and bonuses are a thing of the past, so they are doing away with yearly map reviews and making quarterly reviews. It will be explained away like the bravos that were taken away, and we were promised to see that money be redistributed in the bonus and yearly raises. That never happened. Every year since I have been here, they have managed to take things away. I'm done here and interviewing elsewhere, and for the same exact job at another company starts 10k more a year then I make here after 8 years. I'm running for the door as soon as I get that next offer.

I have been miserable for a while. I started looking for a new position internally, and it hit me. I didn't want to work for Optum or UHC, so I applied to other companies. I have interviewed several, and I am hopeful about the one I interviewed for yesterday. I would love just to quit and turn my computer off as soon as I get offered a new position. I don't know if I will, though. While Optum has no loyalty to us, I'm loyal to my work and have things I want to see wrapped up before I go.

Problem with rating low and letting people go is not simple. Not everyone gets opportunities to work on highly visible asks. Team have mixed work load and if you give high performers grunt work to do they will leave due to boredom regardless of what you pay them. You need mix of 3 to 5 ratings but 3 are forced in 2 due to bell curve ratings

Leaving… waiting on bonus. I think there is a large group of us. If I didn’t need the cr-ppy bonus I would have already left but I need it.

I'm staying. Haven't had to shave in 8 years. It's a low bar.

As a manager I know that I am looking elsewhere as it made me sick this year the below low merit raises suggested by HR. It’s all a game.. basically they map it we divide this tiny amount between the team. The “pot” given is not very much and that was divided down because your director then VP had to divide a bucket… it all dwindles down. It’s horrible.

I left the end of January without notice because I was tired of ALL OF IT. I felt no guilt about lack of notice bc they wouldn't extend that courtesy to me if they axed me.

Also, we were about to be trained in another department due to slow work in ours. I just wasn't in the mood. Luckily, I have money saved to last me a while. I haven't started looking yet but I'm happy I left.

Yep… interviews in progress. This is not a good company to their employees.

Hoping to have a new job secured when bonuses drop and put my notice in at that time. I can’t do this anymore. I hate logging in anymore and have had enough with these nauseating calls with the “great” CEO and their over abundance VP’, AVP’s enough already. It’s fluff and wool covering.

Leaving as soon as possible. The insurance costs alone are ridiculous. The pharmacy benefits are beyond frustrating. More layoffs mean more work for others on the team with zero job promotion or increase in wages. UHG has grown way past “mega” and it’s perplexing how it is allowed to own, operate and acquire at the rates UHG is pacing. Directors without investigating why something is occurring are quick to email teams pointing fingers when the issue should be directed at the lack of team members to do the work appropriately and or per the time line requested of the client.

As soon as I can find another job, I'm gone. Bonus or not.

I have a feeling this won't be the last time for no raises.

Bonuses are paid Mar 1. Layoff planning was delayed. But layoff notifications will occur shortly after Mar 1 bonus payout with term date a few weeks later. At least for the area I work in.

If I can find a WFH job with same salary, I am out. Health insurance here su-ks so that does not compel me to stay.

That type of ranking on high performing teams is catastrophic. Why would someone who performs at peak stay if ranked any less than a 4? Then when the leadership wonders why their project all the sudden goes to sh-t all the poor pm or managers can say is your stacked ranking gutted my project teams. They will never learn.

Current advice that has been given has been to give low performers nothing so higher performers feel more compelled to stay, so they likely believe it doesn't matter because the people that will be a part of the layoffs aren't even really getting anything.

The flaw in their logic being that the rating doesn't mean anything. You can have a team entirely composed of high performers but their manager is forced to rate someone a 2 even if that 2 is more competent than another team's 5.

Even if they were giving people a good bonus, it shouldn't surprise you that this company shoots itself in the foot so often. They're actively ki-ling any incentive for good people working on good teams to stick around.
