You will never be safe as long as you are with this company. It has been going down for the past three years, in case you have not noticed. There is zero vision from the CEO on down. "Innovation" is just a thing people tell themselves to make them feel good. Virtualization technology is well past its time, and the company doesn't have anything new for its future. It's all about packaging stuff and try to resell it -- like putting lipstick on a pig -- and it's not even good at it. (Airwatch, Nicira, anyone?)

Does anyone really believe that VMware cloud service can really compete with AWS or Azure?

The riskiest move for everyone there is not to take a risk and go do something else. The VMware ship has been sinking for several years now, and before very long there won't be anything left of it but a memory of a once great company that managed to squander its future through incompetent management. I can almost time this final descend to the start of a Pat Gelsinger's regime.

VMware historically has always done all of its layoffs for a given cycle on the same day, even for people who are remote or on PTO. If you haven't been told anything (and don't have several calls from your manager that you haven't returned it something like that), you're good to go.

The layoffs never end, they just have multi week/month gaps between cycles. Ironically, many of those RIF'd yesterday could easily be working back at VMware in a few weeks, making more than they did at time of separation.

if you went to the office today and didn't get notified you should relax, your manager should have told you that all layoffs were done
