Thread regarding Alphabet Inc. (Google) layoffs

Proof? Where are the doubters now?

So this thread had a really assertive poster saying talk in the press of Google layoffs were all “rumors” and demanding “substantiation”. Did the 12k number really surprise anyone? I hope that people use these message boards to actually help people and not just for wishful thinking. I doubt this is the end as most companies have a few waves. Google is losing ad money and I don’t see the tide turning back.

Google is best. I am best engineer at cs101 algorithms. I can’t design products but I help acquire other companies that made demos of software.

"Personally there is evidence that layoffs weren't even considered at the VP level as late as early December, when that thread was most active."

"You mean the rumor that said there would be 22,000 laid off? Yeah, I'd call it unsubstantiated given that it was off by 45% and had many other errors."

This is round 1 of layoffs. Be patient, the 22k will be met soon.

This is again denial. No one will actually come to these post boards and give exact details and timing. Why? Because they would be violating terms of their employment and they also probably don’t have that information. Mature companies’ layoff data is held by a very small group of people and no one is given the whole picture. You are doing a disservice to fellow employees to suggest that they should doing rumors of layoffs for Google just bc the exact numbers don’t play out. I wouldn’t be surprised if the company did scenario planning and had a few different options ranging from 6% to 20%, and they probably also waited to see what their competitors did because no one wants to be tagged with that dreaded 20%.

Someone posted in end of December hinting VP confirmation about layoffs but the post was contended with split voting. You are missing the point that higher ups have information channels open. Some other post also indicated layoff confirmation by VP in early December. Looks like you are contending the early December but source for your evidence can be slow/off by a few days or the VP can have access to internal sources.

Just because a layoff happened doesn't mean that previous "rumors" posted here were true. People saw what was going on in the rest of the industry and came here to post cr-p.

Personally there is evidence that layoffs weren't even considered at the VP level as late as early December, when that thread was most active.
