Some say they once enjoyed working for this company. I have been here for 3 years and during that time I cannot say that I have ever been overly satisfied with the working conditions here and the atmosphere in general. It is very clear that Fidelity is sinking. What do you think, when did it all start to go downhill?

The number of middle managers and executives whose only job is to get on a Zoom call and provide feedback on other people's work is freaking amazing to me. Wtf. This company is a great place to coast if you have any skills at all. I'm using this time to learn and GTFO!! 10 years have been good but, WTF, peace out ya'll!
Abby Johnson's early career (analyst, etc) was marked by poor performance where she was shuffled on to another assignment. Culture of the investment team was vicious and terrible under her leadership. Father basically fired her. The gifts / SEC trading scandal all happened under her watch but she was never held accountable. I've heard she was involved in taking private jets, etc but it was covered up to the SEC - let others take the fall. Heard from an insider the Wall Street journal was going to run an expose article on the culture under her leadership with numerous sources after the #metoo incident but it was again covered up. Haven't been there for awhile but not surprised to read these posts. Great business her father built despite the current leadership. Carolyn Clancy, Judy Marlinski, and Kathy Murphy - all more talented sr executives - leaving tells the story.
@2mtb+1btzIzMe it their....not there
Ned cared about his employees. When Abby took over, employee satisfaction has tanked ever since. Scale and profitability tracks higher than employee satisfaction.
Record number of employees are quitting their jobs. If you are miserable just leave. There is a reason there are so many at Fidelity for 25 plus years. With your attitudes you will never be successful so just leave.
Just mail it in. I worked there for 14 years. Good times. Lots of fun. But I never thought I’d be there more than a few years. I don’t know where the time went. When I left, things were definitely going downhill with employee sentiment. I was happy to move on and find a different industry to work in. Change is good.
FWIW, always have enough money in the bank to cover your expenses and say f*ck you if needed.
Mail. It. In. They don’t give one shi.t about any of you. They eventually push everyone out. So have fun. Take long lunch breaks. And laugh.
As soon as you start not giving one f*ck, you will be much happier.
let me tell you, its because there is ineptitude in upper/middle management. they get rid of sh---y managers, and replace with even sh---y managers. it just happened for a few in the WI group, its like this. you were sh---y in this upper management role, but you are a yes "man", and you made the numbers look really good (even though it was a shuffle game). so this sh---y manager is taking the VBO and we will move you into there role. its a round robin circus of cr-p, and i think laziness on the the really big managers, to try and find really good employees. the other funny thing is, there is zero diversity in this group. literally middle aged white men, who suck at there job, moving to another area to suck. oh well,
I'm working for a "Diversity" now. The person is clueless, but is loaded with "transferrable skills."
Work is now he** on Earth.
I agree it changed when Abby took over. The company was never woke under Ned. The workplace was not a forum to pi-p your social justice causes. It was all about doing the best for our customers....as it should be!
The decline can be traced to Ned's retirement and Abby taking over the firm.
I don’t understand all of you jealous salty employees who complain and whine on this board. Take your skills and know how elsewhere if you feel you can get a better deal- or stand up and try to make the place better. When was the last good idea you helped champion?
First five to ten years are most difficult. After that you become a numb who thinks profitably equals job satisfaction.
Of course some people are happy. Where else in the world people can have that kind of jobs, with no skills or practical knowledge?
It’s not that that they are incompetent, but the fact that they are incompetent and they know it, and they simply don’t care how much they are affecting the lives of the people down the chain.
It is mind boggling.
Just leave if not happy there are plenty of people whom would love to work
At the leader in financial services. I have become like many others I know a millionaire thanks to Fidelity and are very grateful.
Company has NEVER a been more profitable and employee input satisfaction is high.
You will never find a more generous company.
Government action has made all finance companies uber-wealthy. All the 'stimulus' since the Great Recession has pretty much gone into the pockets of the super rich. Abby was born on third base, and thinks she hit a triple. She believes her skill has produced incredible wealth when any empty suit could have had the same results.
She has had privilege. To assuage her white guilt, she's going to make it he-l on white employees.
Abby taking over as CEO several years ago precipitated the decline in employee satisfaction. She uses Fidelity as a platform to promote her liberal agenda. Many of the employees who helped build the empire were cast away and replaced.
