Store shrink

How much does your store get autoshipped and have to shrink? This is one of our biggest wastes!

It's a nightmare how much food that we throw out do to some regional idiot making a deal on a product that no one in their right mind would buy. Jackfruit??? #wholefoodsmarket #unsustainable

I was thinking specifically about states like Texas. They seem to think austin, houston, dallas and san antonio all share the same demographics. Um....not even close. San Antonio especially. 7th largest city in the US, but its people are some of the poorest, yet they make it work. You really think they care all that much about fancy olive oil? Do you even understand the culture of south texas? Its influences? Its heritage? And austin is NOT the same..at all. So just because dallas ($$$) and austin sell the crap out of an item does not mean anyone here will care, youd have to give it away for free to get people to even try it.

I saw so much waste because of this...

For a company that claims demographics are important in store planning, you failed to evolve as the people did. You didnt follow and monitor trends, or even know the difference between long term and short term fads.

And to the stls who kept showing pics from NE stores, please stop, they have no clue how to make guisada or nachos. What I saw would make any tex mex afficiando projectile vomit.

The worst experience I had was with those stupid Toms shoes. We were forced to place a minimum order for holidays. Then our regional team ordered 2 more drops at nearly $25000 each...we never broke $5000 a quarter in sales on those...even during holidays...so wtf? Also, they ordered a sht-ton of sizes we didnt need, majority of customers were 7 - 9.5 not 5 and 10+ My receiver refused the first regional orders after having badgered me only to be shown it was an assistant coordinator who placed the orders. The shtty thing was that toms at the time did not take returns of unsold products. So if you have it in your inventory, youre f'd unless it sells. There were 4, yes FOUR other stores in walking distance that sold toms. Bleh.

kinda wish theyd get rid of the overpriced clothing anyway...

Dont even get me started on the food waste...i worked in several departments over the years so ive dealt with that mess as well.

Once we got auto-shipped mountains of some kind of pecan pralines they liked down in Georgia. Nobody in North Carolina wanted that sugary crap just because a bunch of rich birdbrains in Buckhead thought it was heavenly. Whatever. Another reason to put the the region out of business. We were closer in taste to Baltimore than Birmingham and they couldn't seem to grasp that. Our customers weren't having daily orgasms over how "Southern" everything was supposed to be.

We had that problem all the time in the South. The warehouse would actually change the order to make it look like we weren't ordering what we ordered, then replace the order with crap they guessed wrong on and ended up overstocked with. Nobody in authority would dare to confront them over it. Moving forward, we'll just have to eat the loss and be better at practicing self-accountability, because of course, there's no accountability if you're with the region.

Depends on your store. When a regional team ships items that sell in one part of a state that no one gives a crap about 400 miles away in the same state, uh yeah it can be a big issue. Also when they tell you to place a minmum order, then also auto ship another order on top of that...ugh

I am a TL in SW and both issues are minimal for us - they do exist but really it's not something we lose sleep over it - just my two cents
