Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Want to resign but unsure if it will affect my performance assessment

I am a new hire and it's going to be one year with the company in July. My mental health has declined and I want to quit but my notice period is 3 months. I want to resign in the last week of April so that I can leave in July. Will my resignation put me in the "needs improvement" category? If yes, will that affect my future employement. I don't have a job offer yet and I plan to look for one during the 3 months notice.

If anyone has been through a similar situation or has any advice, I'd really appreciate your insights.

Find another job without telling anybody that you are going to resign. If the use any assessment against you. Use the media to strike back.

It is ExxonMobil's policy that we only confirm to a new employer that "You were gainfully employed from ABC to XYZ dates." We provide no additional information for future employers.

Bottom line, your concerns about your performance assessment after resigning is irrelevant.

New hires or people new within the company shouldn't be assessed their first year. I was an experience hire and not assessed my first year. I personally would not worry about where you are ranked if you are leaving and I also recommend finding a job first before you do leave. I understand your "rush" to leave but please listen to the positive people posting in this thread. I also doubt you would be given the PIL option so whoever told you that fed you incorrect information. Leaving a job without a backup is just adding unnecessary stress. Plus it's always easier for your new job if you are currently employed.

Now, I have seen some odd situations here where new hires were ranked their first year but this was also during covid and not how the process is.

For those posting negativity, this shows you some of the issues we face within EM. Just sad.

Best of luck!

Why care about ranking when you are leaving? Any reference check, XOM will only confirm your employment and position. click.

Figure out what is bringing you down before you quit. Sometimes in life the best achievement is learning to overcome a mental obstacle. Sometimes though you must find a better fit. Good luck.

Btw, exactly when you quit is a basically irrelevant. More important is the explanation you give to the next employer. Exxon doesn't give info if your next company calls for a reference, and everyone knows that.

No one outside of Exxon will ever care about your Exxon ranking. Put in your notice whenever you want.

It is better to find a new job and then give 14 to 30 days' notice that you are resigning. If you take the 3-month Pay-In-Lieu (PIL) Needs Significant Improvement (NSI) option you will never be able to work for ExxonMobil for the next 50 years.

  1. New hires are definitely assessed
  2. New hires are not “automatically” put into “Good”. They can, and have been, given NSI.
  3. New hires aren’t put on PIPd if they’re put in NSI. They’re just given PIL and shown the door.
  4. Yes, putting in your notice will guarantee you are given NSI. Your leadership literally has nothing to lose.
  5. Yes, getting NSId and being terminated will mean that you are not going to be hired here again.

If you can, wait until after you’re given your ranking then leave.

Even better, wait until you have a new job. It’s a lot easier to negotiate when you have a job than when you don’t.

Entry level position with 3 month notice period? Which country is that, India?

As far as I am aware (coming from south east Asia), notice period is only 1 month for lower entry positions. Not too sure if higher CL positions require longer notice.

You should contact HR and see what options you have available. It sounds like you might be operating with some inaccurate information.
Take care of yourself.

Recent hires (if assessed) automatically are slotted as G. If your department has a bunch of recent hires, G is already filled.

When the meeting begins O and E slots are pre-negotiated and taken for HPo employees.

You’re basically competing for the limited E, VG slots.

If you put in your notice, you become the easiest to PIP.

New hires were the origin of the PIP system.

Good news if that you will be able to take 3 months of pay if PIP’d and choose the PIL.

Not everyone young understands the system. The first reply here is an example of the toxic culture now running this company. #care
