Thread regarding Ford layoffs

What skills are the most relevant at Ford today?

In your opinion, what skills are the most relevant at Ford today?

When I was starting in the late 80s you had to have a broad range of technical skills accompanied with better than average communication skills... I am about to retire in 2021, and I am curious what kind of skills are deemed to be the most relevant skills today...

If you complain or raise an issue, you will be put in charge of fixing that issue. If you are very vocal, they may make your role to fix the issue you complained about. For example, complain about too much documentation...Congratulations! You are a the new person in charge of all documentation. The culture is based on pageantry, guilt, and punishment.

"The ONLY way to finical [sic] security is investing your own money! There is NO WAY anyone can rely on a company to do so for you, no matter how good your skill sets are to the company."

How to intelligently invest with a plan and your own money is a valid skill for everyone no matter where they are! Beyond the traditional standard guidance I've found a lot of value in seeing a wide variety approaches, merits of each, and differing personal goals discussed here https://forum.earlyretirementextreme.com/ (thankfully the forums aren't pushing any products, just a lot of people who are interested in getting out of the rat race soon as they can manage)

Mimic every single thing about the highest ranking person in your area. Basically, be a Mini-Me of your director or manager. If your director mentions some hair-brained idea he read about, do a PowerPoint presentation on it and present it to him. Get permission from your supervisor first.

Learn how to anticipate when the Ford stock will have a quick bump up in price. Usually right before a layoff. Keep your ears open and listen for any rumor's, and day trade Ford stock. Working at Ford will give you a slight edge on what is going on with the company. The ONLY way to finical security is investing your own money! There is NO WAY anyone can rely on a company to do so for you, no matter how good your skill sets are to the company. Management is way too neurotic, paranoid and short sighted to truly value your work abilities. All it takes is that ONE person who is good at back stabbing and you're screwed in the next re-org.

Acting is really important and I would encourage acting classes as free electives for those in college. Straight talk, telling it like it is usually don't work at Ford and will often leave competent employees bitter with regrets.

At Ford you got to take it to make it.
