Thread regarding Hy-Vee layoffs

Why are you still here?

Hy-Vee is going down, so what's keeping you here? Please be honest. For me, it's the fear of the unknown. I know this place is more or less doomed, but the idea of starting over after 15 years here is not too thrilling for me right now. I'm working on changing that, though. Hopefully, I'll be out of here within a year. At least that's my goal - if I'm not laid off before then.

I stayed because of my department manager (who is a wonderful person, hardworking and brilliant at her job) and my fellow team workers. I had never worked in such a cohesive, supportive environment and probably never will again. That said, with the last round of hours cuts, it was sink or swim. I have responsibilities that 12 hours a week at $11/hr won’t meet. I now have full time at $17/hr. The environment isn’t the greatest and some of my coworkers are unpleasant but everything is a trade off. I’d never go back to Hy-Vee because of the games they play with people’s livelihoods.

I left the company four years ago. Started there during high school as a part time courtesy clerk, worked as a shift manager then dept. head. Was with the company for over 15 years. It is scary to leave something familiar and start anew. DO IT. The company is not like it used to be. I stayed for so long because I was loyal to HyVee, found out that the loyalty does not go both ways. Working all hours of the night, coming in on days off, every weekend and every single holiday, for what??? The pay is not comparable to other companies. They say they care, that they are a family company, not anymore. Get out while you can. The grass is greener, I promise. I was hired by a large company, not in grocery or retail, and have been promoted 3x already, make way more money, and no holidays or weekends. There are tons of opportunities out there.

I left Hy-Vee a year ago. After 36 years. I didn't retire, I just saw how Randy Edeker is destroying this company. Jeremy Gosch will replace Edeker, and that is even worse.

Been there almost 5 years. The only reason I'm still there is the people I work with. They are fantastic and hard working people. But yes I am also looking because the starving artist gimmick isn't worth it.

I've been looking for a few months. As soon as I find something, I'll be gone.
