Hello....dont count on a big severence package ....its only a small amount of money for every year of unfortunate service with Sears...not worth sticking around for..and dont be surprised if you get nothing at all...Sears has a long history of not commiting to their obligations to customers and employees alike!

A&E is alright if you're paying and have a non-Kenmore product. If you're trying to get serviced for a Sears product that needs parts or under warranty, good luck with that.

This stuff is strange. Must be regional differences. This here is south-central New Hampshire.

A few weeks ago, our 15 year old dryer stopped working altogether; and our 16+ year old dishwasher was getting deafeningly loud when it ran, and I told my wife that it sounded like a bearing going out we better get it looked at before we have to wash dishes like it is 1930.

I told her, in no uncertain terms, DO NOT, NOT under any circumstances get Sears A&E, get a local friendly third party, because A&E would just try to get us to buy a whole house warranty. She got on the internet, and booked service about 4 days out from a service that said they could handle it. They said they'd have to send two vans, one guy specializing in dryers, one in dishwashers.

Sitting at my computer that day, looking out the window, my heart sank as I watched two Sears A&E branded vans come up the driveway. I thought, "Oh sh!t, wife of mine, what on earth have you done to us?"

The two guys were great.

The dryer guy said that the timer board had died, and it would cost more to fix it than it was worth. He said to just get a new dryer from Best Buy, because the new dryers aren't that bad compared to the old ones. So that's what we did.

The dishwasher guy said the the motor was on the verge of failing, which matched my diagnosis. I wanted to fix it anyway, because dishwashers are such garbage now compared to 15 years ago (thank you EPA...). The dishwasher guy agreed with me, and he had the replacement motor in his van for this old thing, so he fixed it for a reasonable price, and we were up and running. and it's been good since.

They did half-heartedly try to push a whole-house warranty.

We must have gotten lucky or something, or maybe it's a regional thing. I won't be seeking out A&E in the future, as I prefer local friendly independents, but this engagement turned out OK.

The other day they had the guts to send a drunk third party contractor to my home, the guy hit me on and I didn't know what to do other than calling my husband who now wants to cancel all of our contracts. I've never been treated this bad before, next time I am buying from Best Buy, Sears service never used to be this bad.

The current state of service for the remaining and unfortunate A&E customers is unsustainable. And it's getting worse by the day. With technicians dropping like flies, there are areas in many districts where there is no service at all, and a service call cannot even be scheduled. And those areas where there are still techs working, earliest service can be over month or two out. And this is not an exaggeration. So many techs out everyday with sickness, personal events, truck breakdowns, family emergencies, it's obvious that they're playing the game for as long as they can. Many of them stopped caring years ago.

Those who could actually try to do something about this situation, (managers and capacity analysts) aren't doing anything at all. You can't even get a response through e-mail from many of them. When you see management just ignore this situation, and focus on other irrelevant priorities and daily tasks, it's quite obvious that this sh–show is quickly collapsing. And the sooner the better. Stop screwing customers over and over again with constant reschedules weeks or months into the future. Shut it down. Now.

@ywn Don't necessarily count on a severance package.

Good morning From A&E factory service. Formally known as Sears . Every thing is insane at this point as everyone is waiting for the big severance package. The techs that are left have been milking the system and still collect a paycheck. Managers don't care. They just keep Pissing off the customer.
By telling them that service is a month off. Wont be long now. Before we are shut down. I keep lighting a candle every night.
