Thread regarding Chesapeake Energy Corp. layoffs

This post is for you haters, Sad Trolls, Environmental activist. Stock manipuvultures, and my former colleagues who I love and miss.

I am a field office employee. I am not tied to any industry by trade or by choice. I am a degreed professional. My skillset is transferable to any industry. So even if CHK folds, I will be fine. Sadly though, no industry is as professionally rewarding as O&G. Three days this week, I got to work three hours earlier than normal. 4ish knocked out all my crap... then i pushed back from my desk, I put on my gloves, my hard hat and I changed chokes, dump valves and fixed a gate. Turned wrenches and ate lunch onmy tailgate. Those are not my normal job duties, I sit at a desk, and email, and coordinate and Manage a team. I wasn't told to do it. I dont even think its a big deal. Not sure if anyone other than the operators I was working with realized it. And suprisingly they didn't make that much fun of how out of shape I am. Now I don't get paid overtime, so this is just me adding some value. Mostly i did it because it made me better at my job, I saved CHK some money and i had a blast working my ass off with my friends. Those of you who want me to fail, Let this ring in your ears. I did it because I want my colleagues back. I have been here through 100 % turnover in my line of supervisors through and including the CEO. I will say this, that line has only gotten stronger, at CHK the Weak self-select out. I don't drink cool-aid. I drink coffee. I know what my executive leadership team is made of.... Leaders... leaders who go to bat for our team every waking moment. That is all I need. That is all I ask for. Thank you.

For you haters. You can short us but you cannot stop us. Our legacy debt and past crappy deals might catch up to us. But if they don't you should buy some of our stock. We do it better, faster, cheaper smarter, safer then anyone. That's why

I am CHK.

I never post on here but I have to make an exception on this one. The majority of ppl who work @ CHK do not have the same mentality as these yahoos. The situation as a whole is dire and you over zealots need to wake up. Not sure if you are just drinking the kool-aid or serving it.

Oil just spiked again today. It will be $60 by the end of the year, after that it will continue to climb.. CHK will continue to not only rIse, but lead the way out of these concerning times. All our competitors who did not have the insite to see and prepare for this worrisome phase will not survive.. That is what sets us apart from many E&P companies.. It is their lack of inste that let them borrow more monies than they should have.. We are big enough to absorb the punches only to come out stronger... Believe that..

I gave up judging others for lent. So I will muster the strength to not pass judgement about you. I do want to comment on kids and young men and Women in the oilfield. There are some on my team who are brraking one off every day. They are concerned, devoted, driven, eager to learn and improve. I would give my job to keep them employed. And then there are millennial brats who have never lifted a finger yet complain as though someone owes them something. I don't know you, I can't imagine your bitternes helped you to add much value to anything in your life. I have had worthless young and old people on my teams for a short while. They couldn't handle the pressure of a real oilfield job. They didn't understand the potential of a crescent wrench and a pair of channel locks. They had to be told what to do during RU and They didnt know enough to be worried about what's next after we RD MOVE OUT.

Where I work, I get approached almost every time I get out of my truck. People want me and CHK in their communities. We represent comercial growth. We represent American Jobs. So I won't pass judgement on you. I just pray you figure out a way to recognize what it takes to achieve quality in any aspect of your life. Then apply those principles to everything you do. Good luck. It takes a lot of work.

To the below comment .

When he fuels up ? All CHK truck are ( according to company policy ) supposed to utilize CNG as much as possible , so tell us again how many people do you REALLY see at the CNG pumps ?

The only vehicles I know of that aren't proudly marked with the " runs on natural gas " stickers are the unmarked Lawler gun toting thugs in his (corporate security) team .

Now we KNOW OP is 100% full of shit. Your CHK truck isn't the damn Bat-Mobile and nobody gives two shits and a popsicle about the person driving it. Go ahead and douche the stank of Lawler's dong from your colon!

For the Houston service provider, i am not sure who your service organization is or was. And truly cannot speak for any area outside of what I work with. On that note, my team and those around us care as much about the individual service provider as we do our own employees. Regardless of service line, or size of cotranctor's organization. This might not represent your experience in CHK of old. Honestly, that was not what I found when I began working with CHK. However, It has been a message we have driven and have top to bottom buy in. I cannot speak for campus. But hear on location, We treat our contractor work force like the technical experts they are. They have a voice, an opinion, and like us they too are working as hard and efficient as any CHK employee. We recently began to get Consultants and location supervisors from the other Major operators. From what they tell me, there is no operators are as flexible or capable as CHK. Our expectations are clear, and reasonable. Despite the fact that OKC has been extremely erratic in our schedules lately. You would think that changing drilling and frac schedules would present huge issues. It has not, because our team is focused on excellence in process. It is our dynamic fluidity that makes us so effective. We are not mired in manuals the ones we have were born to be efficient for improved and safe Turn In Line Times. That gives a better rate of return... Here in the field we get it... Not that faster is better. Rather, less down time fewer incidents and clearer communication drives steady and builds on sucess. We have very defined roles for Drilling, Completions, Production, construction, Field services, EHS, and Regulatory. We no longer live or work in silos... We are friends who laugh and cry together. We all know our roles and deliver on our responsibility. Now.. for the people who complain about this thread and these posts as crule and insensitive to those who no longer work at CHK. Many of them still own stock or have 401Ks tied to the success and failure of CHK. Not only do I want those who deserve their jobs back to return. We are driving so hard every day for everyone who has any investment in CHK. As I originally posted The Pig Short traders responsible for manipulation of of my children's education have given me and those around me resolve. Not to prove them wrong... they lied and collaborated to drive us down to $1.50. From 20 bucks in one year. They were right all along they could and did do it. What my resolve/ intent is to give them a sincere window into the real value of CHK. Those of us who are here grabbing and grinding to do it faster, better, safer, cleaner and more effectively than anyone else. We have the product, and we can get it to market. You should Buy in... We are not a paper tiger. Let this sink in.... A smooth sea never made a skillful sailor. When prices calm, the wind is ours.

Hey G1rznTc...

CHK is one of the most leveraged "pears" out there despite Doug's promises to Uncle Carl and the rest of the investors to reduce the company's debt. Your leadership did jack with the 5+ billion from the Marcellus sale and twiddled their thumbs instead of doing what they were hired to do - reduce costs and debt. They totally ignored debt. Still 11+ billion in debt so today's promise to reduce the company's debt is a day late and a dollar short. Investors appreciate your enthusiasm but quit wasting time telling us how awesome you are and prove it. Get back to work.

First I preface my statement with the fact that I work for a large oilfield service company based in Houston, TX. We worked for CHK in the past but due to their inability to pay our company on time (IE less that 90 days or whenever they decided the ticket was to their liking), we stopped working and brought our toys back to Texas. This was in the good times.

As many of us applaud the enthusiasm, I do really because bitching isn't really helping anyone in this day and age. It must be stated that CHK could have been a bit "less smug". Success of the company was envied by all. The grand campuses and amenities for the employees were great from what I was told.

Maybe, just maybe, when, hopefully not if, they come out of this thing, they could kind of not rub it in everyone's ass next time. Be a bit humble. Treat vendors and contractors as partners and not adversaries. This could explain a bit of the hate. Just my opinion.

All you haters need to just zip it. You think you know how the market works but you are far off the grid. You think this slump in commodity price was never prepared for? Why do you think companies hedge? You must have CHK confused with one or many of our pears, but let me tell you buddy; YOU DONT KNOW JACK. When the more leveraged producers fall by the way side we will come back stronger. Even shareholders will see that our need has not diminished and how the economy can not keep going without us. Wild cats are not restricted to the past. If the current environment is troubling you then you are in the wrong field. Why don't you go apply for a Government job with little risk. The greater the risk, the greater the reward. OPEC is a paper tiger and we are showing them how it is done. We don't need weak people holding us back and the same goes for all you haters. Wake up and focus on the solution instead of the problem.

You are spot on about one thing .. I most certainly am a Community relations expert. I work with land owners and Sherrifs, Fire Dept. City police and regulatory agencies. Every time i pull my truck up to fill up and a member of the public approaches me... Every time i am courteous in traffic... Community Relations. Every time I report and clean up my teams mess.... Community Relations. I am very proud of the organization I represent. When they ask, I am honest with them as well, it's not good. But we have strong minds and and backs more importantly we are blessed to be here. However, what ever happens. HAPPENS.

No I am not in the social media dept. Those kids dont own an 18,24,36 or understand the first thing about leadership under literal pressure. Either wellbore, pump, or crap like Oil/Gas prices imposed Make no mistake, what I am doing here is quite intentional. I am exactly who I say I am.

You haters are stuck so hard on the fact that I can't be real. I can't possibly be witnessing the momentum swing in the field, where decent hands are delivering like top hands. And top hands are grabbing it with both hands. I promise you this hater, I will not attempt to walk in your shoes. And I know you can't stand in mine. Please, Don't lecture me about suffering. You cannot imagine my scenario in Oct. But here is where I stand on it. That was poorly planned and an even poorer delivery. I think our brass realizes the mistakes or something along those lines. I passed up my issues like a leader does. At the same time, I am also glad they don't know what they are doing on a day like that. That says to me they held out as long as they could. And frankly our HR team didn't have a clue because we don't do that every time commodity prices drop. Next time I doubt it will be so chickenshit. I am not changing my tune, we will see a next time. But in the mean time, we are collectively taking you haters to task I am feeding on your want for my failure. Those around me are not sitting on our hands, we are working our asses off to keep what we have worked so hard to make great. We are doing things no other operator on land in the US could dream of doing. With all of your hatred smiling at us. And we will go back for those who were cut because that job title no longer existed. You can hate. And I may lose my job. But I already won. And if you worked with the people around me, past and present. You would be a winner as well. But you don't represent us.

There is some truth to what you say. But the reality is I have worked for small operators and Medium sized operators. And as a contractor I have worked for every Major E&P operator. I chased the Brass ring here. I aspired to work here and busted my tail as a contractor for two years to get here. I came here by choice. Because CHK was fluid and dynamic and my supervisors were mentors who I still respect. Although, they are all gone now. I hope i am giving back what I was given. Did my peers carry their weight? Not all of them really, and I watched them fold under the pressure. But the ones who did succeed are still here or were let go... to satisfy wall street, not because they were shit birds. Those of us near the wellhead know that. Which is why I am watching a team around me step up to the plate and drive base hits every day. This ain't T-Ball oil field anymore. We are in the bigs and are playing like it. That's how we overcome the Board of Directors and the wall street analyst collective who make those arbitrary decisions. We are going to leave them no choice but to keep us. And we are coming back for our lost brothers and sisters. That's why I started this rant. I can only control what's in my reach. But why I am driving it so hard is for you. Not just those still here. Also from what I have seen, so is Doug, Jason, Chris, Nick, and Jim. They are not perfect. But I see leadership. I see people who invest in people. All NYSE companies particularly ones beholden to commodity pricing are run by MBA and JD's, honestly, I need them as much as they need me. And I hope they read all of this. So they feel the collective us. Then when they make choices hopefully they won't be so arbitrary.

Problem is not the workers at CHK, its the MBAs and JDs who do the deals with wall street. They can and will run any company into the ground by design! A company is a legal entity used to make money, it's only useful when it makes lots of money, after that its more convenient to bankrupt it and start over. Its more convenient for everyone but the employees, the officers of the company will just start over.

I am not beating my chest. Your rage is blinding you from my message. This thread on this site is the only place I have ever publicly vented. Read through it... Of the 700 or so people let go, I lost some very close friends who I am still in contact with. They to were hard working, gave extra, and we're dedicated employees with families to support. All but one has landed on their feet. And she will be starting a new path shortly. Your bitternes and jealousy are your problem. Did you not participaite in professional development? I have. In five years CHK has paid for a front page of resume certifications. I chased that. If you didn't do that. Don't hate those who have, recognize missed opportunity and improve your situation the next time it's presented to you. The bonuses should not enrage you. Did you not get a 40+ % bonus last year? If you didn't you were an under performer. If you did be grateful. This time it's 138% of target bonuses. Not of salary. From my team that will be about a 12% to 18% bonus. My team doubled their effort in 2015 and deserve it. As I am sure you did. You like so many of my friends were a victim of commodity prices. Not a hateful CHK. I cannot speak for everyone at CHK. I will represent the sentiments I see in my buisness unit. We are still here are busting our asses to bring back the people who we know deserve the job they lost, great people who truly were competent, driven and devoted. But we also know that will not happen until prices change. In fact I am willing to bet the next round targets middle managers. That will be me and my family. I pray you have someone that is working for you too. But if it happens to me I will be ready. And you better believe I will be grateful and proud.

The ones I know are Men. I do however feel sorry for you. That is one hell of a way to come to work every day. It should bother you that we are proud enough to keep clawing to to keep our work product alive. I can only attest to how much effort my team, My field office... hell, my entire BU has given to the cause. The fact that we are still here is a testament to that effort. But not just us out here. Our partners on campus, are doing it as well. If you dont see that effort around you. You have it in you to change it. Be great. Are we a perfect organization? He'll no, please show me one, in any human capacity. Go make your situation better. Be a man.

Calling people on here names ( troll ) isn't a very nice thing . I too work @ Chesapeake , Lease Operator ( on days off ) . I sure as hell am not going to share my name on here . Our CEO is a snake ! He will promise the moon then sneak up on you and bam your gone . Transparency is a core value of his , BULL . I personally have seen two employees try to tell him of issues within a certain field office , coward never responded to their emails and sicked his thugs on them . By emailing the CEO they were handed their walking papers . Now if you are so happy and confident in you job ( as tour bragging about the extras you do ) , and confident with your CEO then why not post here using your name ? Kissing his ass might get you somewhere , or not !

I am not as comfortable as you claim to be

The truth bothers you doesn't it. I am facing losing my job. Relocating my family, starting over in a different industry. Yet I am at peace. Because I know what I have done here and what I have left to do is outstanding. My team is lean, competent competent, and continues to deliver quality and excellence. But if CHK does fold. The work I have done and continue to do has prepared me to succeed in any industry. So I will walk out with my head high... not bitter. But PROUD abuot how hard we crushed it every day. And believe this. It's not propaganda. I am very real. And so are my Co-workers.

As for you Environmental activist who want CHK to fail... let me enlighten you to reality. In 2007, your war cry was Peak Production for both Oil and Gas.... So we had no choice but green solutions. Unfortunately there is no economic viability to wind and solar any time soon.... So your new War Cry is Everything Shale is bad! Alaso, you people have not done the math.... What do huge Solar arrays and expansive wind farms large enough to sustain humanity do to our weather systems? Your surface footprint per BTU will be 10X ours. Gas is the cheapest, and cleanest option. I agree with you we need to focus on injection wells but that's a byproduct we have to improve handling as an industry. ... the truth is, shale Gas isn't as damaging as you claim it is. As responsible stewards, we care as much about how we operate as anyone in our industry. So if you are hoping for us to fail.... so you can say look the Shale Gas model is a bubble, unsustainable. In a sense you are correct. Not because aubrey mcclendon was greedy. He was and He did make some awful long term deals, and he tolerated/expected shortcuts and minimal effort for environmental stewardship. he is a land man and more acreage is more money. And now we see his model required long term price inflation. But he is not driving this ship. Our leadership and our field teams won't/don't take those shortcuts. Economics didn't sink CHK But rather, we as a team are collectively too good at our jobs. We flooded the Market. We made our own bed. Now we have to sleep in it. And we know it. But supply and demand will even out. If we make it through. You should root for us, we will replace Coal, and Nuclear generation and for every BTU we will have less environmental impact than any other viable energy source. But you will never believe that. You too can hate us and root for our failure. But you still need us... And patchouli still stinks.

Look at it like this... for the most part this organization is comprised of proud, responsible, ethical (work and personal character)... people. Of course there are still some CHK alumni with crony abuse who slide under the radar... but mostly the field operations has made a cultural shift to operational excellence. And the areas that are struggling to meet the expectations are showing sound improvement. Like it or not, we know we have solid leadership, and every single person we interact with on campus who we work with daily, they care as much as we do. Picture CHK Vs. Commodity Prices... not you Hater, we don't care about you. Put us in a game of tug of War with those prices. We as a unit will collectively heave .... Trust me, we can pull together. And we know those prices can and will pull us in the mud. But they are going to have to do it. Because with that looming over our heads, we show up, bust ass and get better ever day... Will it be enough? I don't know. However, in my life I have never seen legitimate effort result in failure. Might not be the outcome we expect or want. But we all will be successful for the effort alone. I work with a bunch of people who can say that they succeed every day. I hope you can say that about what you provide this world Hater. I hope you succeed for it as well. I don't hate you, I pray for you. And I don't pray about my job. I pray that I have the courage to succeed.... HATER, You might be correct in the near future. We may all be out of work. That will not diminish what we are doing today at CHK because it will always be great.
