Thread regarding TechnipFMC plc layoffs

Stupid is as stupid does

I don’t know what our ELT was thinking with last week's layoffs. Many knowledgeable employees who had years of hands on experience are now gone. Their workload will probably be pushed onto others who are already overworked. And then they'll get blamed when productivity suffers. This place, I swear...

I worked for FMC for nearly 30 years, I took a voluntary layoff in 2019. FMC was a great place to work before the merger. Sad to say but newer employees probably will never see 30 years on the job, like many of those who started in the 80s and 90s.

Make no mistake about it. The ELT does not care about you, your work performance or your skill set. The only thing they care about is maximizing their bonuses and keeping the shareholders happy so that they can stay in their position of power. It is pretty obvious that they are setting up the company to be broken up into pieces and then sold. First the split will happen in 2021. Then they will sell measurement, and then subsea. Then Dougie and Barry and Maryann and the rest will walk away with a boatload of cash, leaving thousands of people with no way to feed their family. And they will not feel one bit bad about it.

Funny, I see all kinds of senior employees with VP or Director titles, next to no direct reports, who basically do nothing and collect a check. It's called the 'buddy system' ...

Oil and gas isn’t going to be a growth industry in the long-term regardless of what the government does. Just like natural gas k–led coal, more technology is becoming more viable that will replace oil and gas. Skilled employees should move-on as soon as possible, our ELT is not competent enough to diversify and pull us out of this mess any time soon.

This has been going on now for years. You’re either one of the “longer time” employees who was let go, & were most likely a dedicated employee & was let go due to salary range & tenure, OR you’re a newer employee & are getting “dumped on” with responsibilities responsibilities you weren’t hired for, but you will do them to retain your job due to current salary you’re making, however long that will last. Understand employees are a cost, no matter how valuable you think you are. Many smart
college grads are standing in line for jobs & willing to take lower salaries, & the coronation will take them. Bottom line, you can & will be replaced, no matter your experience & dedication. Exception...if you’re you’re corporate staff.
