Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Les Copeland

What is Les Copeland like as a manager? How does he treat his employees? I don't work under him but would be interested in hearing about him.

Pretty worthless talker, can’t execute or deliver any true value to business.

He was great at marketing and spin, but couldn’t deliver squat.

If you have to ask, you may not have a good experience. He was hired by former CIO Randy Mott as part of a posse of IT leadership 10 years ago and bragged he would be the next CIO. He's struggled with business relationships outside of IT and was rotated to various roles within IT to keep him safe. He is a tyrant and runs his org like a gang. If you know him for a long time, you get protection. If not, you are expendable fodder. He makes impossible promises that you will have to keep and puts the pressure on you to deliver. He will protect himself over his staff. Yet, you have to be a toady and never question any decisions, as most are politically driven for his personal benefit and not practical or in best interests of GM. If you can get to his inner circle, he will take care of you. But that is not possible unless you are in Austin and takes years.

Gershwin regarded him as one of his favorite pianists.

Les is cool to hang out but not sure at work. He is a ki-ler drummer though I am not much into Thrash Metal anymore. He has a huge tattoo of an eagle with a dead bush pig in its beak on his back, you can see it when he takes off his shirt. He can juggle bowling pins better than most any clown acrobat.
