Listed home prices and rents are artificially high, do not get satisfied with 10-20% reduction. Dig historical data and understand complete picture. You can save crazy amount of money.
Pay max 500$ in deposit. Do not pay 1 month rent as deposit. Banks pay 5% interest and most of apartment complex ask for small deposit. Shop around in market for deals when your rental lease is over.

H1B visa is a scam of the century. To avoid slaves like OP, H1Bs should be either directly sent back to their home country after 6 years or should be granted PR based on merit. H1Bs should never replace “capable” Americans. The jobs are already getting offshored and hence H1Bs are not even needed.

For other h1s, live and buy well below your means, share room if you can. Bargain heavily for car, house and rent. Always pay below asking. Ignore vile comments on this forum. Work hard during office hours, enjoy life off work. Keep and dress well.

It seems that are lots of jobs available on the market; if you have the skill sets and are willing to relocate, you should be able to land another job.

There are very successful tech companies that replace successful America-based engineering managers by cheaper H1Bs brought over from India in order to grow and develop the outsourced teams located
overseas.
The new hungrier, cheaper appointee manager can help better than the previous America-based manager with technical/language/cultural/time zone barriers. And eventually the entire team can be outsourced. In capitalism, companies are in for the profit and can do pretty much whatever they want, if there’s no unions.
It seems that Qualcomm is on that cost cutting path.
