Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Contractors are next

Like 2018 the contractors will be next. If the GM Sr Management let these folks go staffing will be low. On the other hand GM will say they're out of of money once the UAW goes on strike come Labor Day.

The CEO claimed no lay offs. So why would anyone expect the contractors to be let go.

Then the CEO claimed out of money.

So GM is really broke and the stock is worthless then who is pouring money into GM to keep them afloat: The id--t d-mb enough to pay 1600 usd/mth for a lease.

"Wow you called it."
The OP needs to stop congratulating himself.
Saying "contractors are next" is the most Captain Obvious thing ever said on this forum.
Literally everyone knew this because it happens every single time.
Shameful and pathetic.
Say something novel, prolific and interesting and we'll give you kudos.

I feel better now after moving to a Supplier. Minimum needed headcount and efficient crew. In OEM you can easily do the minimum work, get a paycheck and become too lazy to innovate something. At the end of the day always evaluate your skills versus the market demand. Think like a bird. If the branch is being cut use your wings to fly.

Sounds like OEM problems.

Good thing we service multiple OEMS. Not one of you are more special than the other. Your money is still good here. Meanwhile, we'll take your overflow. Why? Because we learned to work with a skeleton crew, and when sh*t doesn't get delivered, or it's delayed, we can always claim body count. We don't have them. Your other suppliers don't have them either. Everyone got effed up due to Covid shots, so not we accept anyone with a pulse and minimal skill. So, deal with it as you have no choice to suffer what's available to you.

Offering 100k+ jobs for people with near ZERO talent is an abomination, and then we train them. Never thought I would see it in my career, but welcome to today. We have arrived to the land of fruitcakes.

Contractors are always "next" but what happens when they are gone?
Who will do the work that the VSP people and the contractor people were doing?
Who will get the cut next?
Life is about to get really interesting for those who are left. Program cuts, added work from those who left, threats, more days in office, longer hours, nasty attitudes, suspicious minds. Enjoy!

My experience is the older people claiming they're responsible for teaching you everything you already knew or learned on your own. This then leads to any reward you get for hard work being labeled as rightfully theirs. Imagine working long nights and weekends only to be punished for any reward because, they "taught you everything you know." They make sure everybody knows about this injustice they've decided you perpetrated on them so everybody is then against any success you've worked for. When you see some "slacker" at GM, always ask, "were they that way when they got here?" Sometimes people just realize that hard work will only result in punishment. Then, it's, "if you don't like it here, go somewhere else."

They're expecting to be assigned mentors who'll tell them step by step how to do their jobs.

While they try to get experienced mentors laid off.

And still the NCHs are waiting for the taxpayers to cover their student loans for their underwater basket weaving degrees from top private colleges.

Based on the responses to @6xnp+1mdw92AN - I sincerely hope there's a day of reckoning for all of the people who were spared for decades while younger people took a fall for them. The entitlement is disgusting and you deserve what is coming. We all see you and many of us are quietly judging you.

Here's a thought. I suspect many boomers haven't retired because instead of saving a couple million for retirement, most have spent every penny on vacations, boats, campers, motorcycles, and live in super-sized homes that they STILL OWE MONEY ON. How am I doing debt sl-ves?
I'll be waiting on the sidelines while the economy collapses. You'll know who I am when I come with a stack of cash to buy your toys for pennies on the dollar. You'll know who I am when you drive by to see who bought your house from the bank after the foreclosure. I know so many of you too well. When GM sales start dipping in the subsequent quarters, they'll be side-eyeing you for the next cut, and when it happens, you'll be too old and undesirable to be re-hired by any company. Even Wal-Mart is having trouble and laying off staff. As the banks collapse and companies go bankrupt, I know this day is closer.
Outside of your bubble, people are struggling. Haven't you ever wondered what that's like? You should really mediate on this.

The young GMers should go become baristas at Starbucks as God intended and stop whining.

How many contractors and young people must lose their homes and go into debt due to job losses to spare these boomers in their 60s+?
I'm starting to look at these 30+ year GM lifers with disdain.
Retire already!

This is a BS post based on previous ones where people were pointing out that before the last layoffs, contractors were cut first. The contractors confirmed this happened. This thread is more discrediting of valid points. Karma, to the people in this thread, is equivalent to justifying the harm you do to others.

The people consoling themselves with "contractors are next"... who are you trying to fool? If/when the contractors are let go (no one has announced this...) who will they come for next? You should take a deep look in the mirror. You know if you are pulling your weight. You know how you rank in terms of value and popularity. The contractors you dismiss as nothing might be the bridge to your next job when you are let go. You better be nice... I've been on both sides of this and let's just say it's easy to say no to a recommendation when your boss asks. Karma isn't kind, it's just the balance of the universe. You are no better than anyone else and your entitlement isn't justified.

If the contractors are mostly H1Bs, they're cheaper than employees.

They should fire them last.

Usually contractors are laid off before employees to lower the number of employees they have to cut.

If they're really going to let contractors go, then they must be planning an ISP soon after, even though they said they weren't.
