OP, spot on. I hope people learn a lesson and start saving instead of spending every penny in a bigger truck, a bigger house, a faster car. How about living with less and having a nice amount of savings so you can be off work for a year or two if some major event happens, like this one, so you can go fishing and enjoy your time off.

With the company still losing its a–, how long before they get rid of Calhoun? How long till the board and shareholders stop tolerating loss?

We are top heavy. Why can’t we go back to the pre-McDonnell Douglas days. The days when our union had respect. Had balls. Didn’t just bs their way to increasing dues for little return to us employees. Employee pride would be profitable. But what do we know....we’re just monkeys turning wrenches. We don’t wear the suits and ties. We don’t attend those meetings to kiss our bosses a–.

How long before this comment gets deleted by whoever monitors this site because it doesn’t support our right to voice our opinions or concerns.

Instead of people sitting around and complaining to each other all day long at work, how about we stand up and take the chance the next time a vote comes up. The next time the union has a meeting. Or is it too much to ask to put down the video games, the cell phones, the “it’s all about me and my feelings only” attitudes. Do something or shut up and whine to the mirror.

The airline bailouts only pay salaries through September. That's when most airline employees get the axe. They are projecting 96% fewer scheduled flights by September, and this is per the government requirement of the bailout that forces the airlines to fly a minimum number of flights per week per airport they serve.

It took them 1 day to announce 10% cuts, and the VLO offers come out starting 4-27. So, do you take the VLO knowing your job is likely gone within the near future anyway, unless you have a LOT of seniority, OR do you wait and see how deep they cut? Will they come up with some sort of alternative buyout IF they take the bailout money? Calhoun had objected to partial government ownership as a condition, and I would think any job guarantees would last only as long as the bailout money, much like the airlines. Sure, you might have your job...for a few more months.

This is why you worry about Mr. Calhoun and the new "leadership". Whatever they do, it will not be in the best interests of the "team".

One of the biggest things I've noted during my Boeing career is the utter lack of critical thinking skills on the part of the majority of the workforce. They work for a union, yet support Republicans and Trump. They make great money, but save next to nothing (or nothing), and work 6 or 7 days a week because they need the OT to pay for all of the toys, and they believe the "One Boeing" mantra and other corporate feel-good c-ap that means ZERO when the c-ap hits the fan.

Wake up, people.

Read up on the “vitality curve” another psychopathic Jack Welch principle implemented at GE. Calhoun will cull the herd then implement stack ranking to ensure “compliance”. Those who resist taking on seven additional heads of ghost work or who demand to be paid for their time will get culled in the second round rinse and repeat.

This has got to be 10% layoff announcement on top of those leaving with the VLO. Thoughts?

They unfortunately want a bean counter in there now to make cuts to save the “bottom line.” Having someone who has worked on planes or even engineered them would be great in a normal environment. But they wanna save their asses so...
Calhoun was a horrible choice though imo.

While there have been orders cancelled, there is still thousands on backlog. No that’s not sustainable. Yes customers might cancel more or ask to postpone. But like someone else mentioned, it’s ok to try to be a little optimistic and hope that 6 months to a year from now, things could start to subside and people will travel/fly again. Short term it doesn’t help. But I’m hoping for a not too distance future of some growth again. We’ve been riding on a high for awhile. Those never last. And this trouble time won’t last either.

I think (hope) a little is based on the vaccine that hopefully is a year or less away. It takes time to rebuild confidence in anything. But optimism is a big part of our country. B–ching and complaining is too, but....do we wanna live in just the doom and gloom end of the room? Hopefully not.

@yen+14Bh1xEG, he is also a bean counter. Boeing is an engineering and manufacturing company. The person in charge of leading the company should be someone who has designed an airplane or has put one together. None of the current leadership has done either.

Calhoun is going to cut deep IMO. Again, there is NO MARKET for what we make right now. Cancellations are exceeding orders, and even if the 737 MAX issues are fixed tomorrow, those planes will sit idle until traffic comes back. The low fuel prices make the problem far worse, because airlines buy fuel options, basically guaranteeing cheap fuel even if the overall oil market recovers. Again, another long term issue. Right now, the #1 concern is keeping the supply chain going. Once all of the vendors have an idea of how far Boeing will cut production, they'll adjust their own operations accordingly and cut jobs too.

Back to Calhoun. He isn't Boeing, he's GE, and that mindset will be applied to job cuts. At least Muilenberg came up through the organization. This guy says all the "right things" about caring about hourlies, that we're a "team" etc., and he will chain saw through as many people as he needs to in order to make the shareholders happy.

A lot of you better be planning on a new career, because it won't be at Boeing. Beware of Dave Calhoun.

If enough people took the weak VLO then maybe they could forestall some layoffs, unfortunately most can't afford to in this crazy market rollercoaster & uncertain times.....industry as whole was already suffering before even C19 hit.Shame that lots of people that are actually there to work & not TROLL will possibly be let go.This isn't fun for anyone, except maybe TROLLBOY.

No I’m not naive enough to think they’ll stop at “up to 7,000), but gotta be optimistic some times. At least I wanna be because this is my job/career and I’ve only been there for 9 yrs and don’t wanna loose it. And a lot of us are in the same boat.

To the OP: Exactly what I've been trying to tell people for a long time now.....but people want to live in LALA LAND & downvote & say "good riddance y'all Boomers" etc. ..... the whole industry is changed now & this is at least as serious as 9/11, probably worse. I've been trying to tell people about Calhoun since he took the reigns.Jack Welch all the way, but don't take my word for it people....look it up yourselves if have the gumption. This is going to take a long time for the industry to recover....& guess what? Boeing supplies that industry! Not just the Max is in trouble either; 767 Tanker has mucho problems, 777X isn't ramping up quick either, 787 is slowing down.....can anyone see the writing on the wall? Boeing corporate is trying to do what it can to keep the BOD & Execs rich , nothing has changed & anyone who can't see that layoffs are coming is delusional.

Spot on. United just accepted a government bailout and is now selling off stock, when last year they were buying it back. Multipy it across all the customers, the ones that stay in business anyway.
