Thread regarding Samsung layoffs

Is it confirmed that the second round is coming in late October?

Rumor has it that it is going to affect Sales only. Any other info?

Samsung laid off it's entire Field sales team yesterday (approx 300)

There probably won't be since too many people have been let go already, the ones left are either looking to leave or retire so they're only keeping the underpaid and low performers

People are saying it's at the end of the month, before the holidays so at least we'll have more time with family

While it might be tough to process right now, in the long run, you’ll likely find yourself in a better place than those who stayed behind. Samsung’s demanding culture, where 60-hour weeks and unappreciated work were the norm, won’t follow you. Once you're in a new role with balanced hours and genuine recognition, you’ll realize how much you've been missing. No more waiting for the catch after a "great job"—because in a healthier workplace, there won’t be one. In time, you may find that this forced transition was the push you needed to escape an underperforming and toxic environment. You're going to be okay, you’ll thrive out of Samsung, everyone does.

Will Samsung close the fab at Austin? They can do same as TSMC, when Taylor starts, export Korean Engineer and also let Korean engineer remote work to support initial process.

It’s two rounds because some orgs have been affected and some have not (and some others will never be affected). It’s not like same org is affected twice.

The 30% is an inaccurate number. In S Korea it was close to 20-30% india also.
Other places was 10-20%. Some of it was eliminating unfilled openings. Some was moving people from one org to another.

Moving forward I would imagine backfilling people leaving will be harder. But they are working on plans for 2025 now. It would be redundant to make these plans then go reduce even more people and having to go back and reset all plans/account coverages.

What about the round in the summer before the big one in Sept? Reuters says 30% and it doesn't sound like the 300+ was enough

Ok the people saying there is a second round affecting sr staff- Why would any company lay off 100+ people all at once, have meetings to reassign accounts, etc. only to do more 2 weeks later?

Yes, maybe more in Q1, but you don't do a mass layoff, and follow it up two or four weeks later with another large layoff. Please spare the fear-mongering.

But weren't many senior professionals including VPs already fired the first round?
