Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Upstream President is a former banker who has worked in oil and gas for 2 years

Even HiPo’s are sc--wed. Check outlet our new Upstream President! Promote from within is dead. Probably a good idea considering we have quit investing in career growth of our employees. Engineering is no longer valued. Anyone know what his bachelors degree is in? He worked as an investment banker and then in auto industry. Clearly management sees us engineers as useless. Same for project managers. You can all be replaced with Indians.

Even a BTC Manager, paid less than a Spring Campus janitor, is more competent in Upstream leadership than Dan.

Dan fits the alternate definition of DEI - Didn’t Earn It.

Dan never lead any part of any Upstream business.

Dan never worked at any Upstream facility.

Dan never visited any Upstream facility.

Dan probably had to Google “Upstream” when he was offered the job

Barry L. Engle and Dan from GM plus former Diageo drinks finance executive Kathryn Mikells as CFO and this year hired general counsel Jeff Taylor from Fox Corp. clearly the strategy has changed. Engine 1 sure has a plan to make themselves rich by looting the company. Sneaky back door way they did it by flying the ESG banner to get in

He didn’t do GM any favors. Missed targets and chaotic departure. No real wins that I can find. Similar story at LCS?

During his tenure, Ammann led GM to transition its focus to electric and automated vehicles.
In 2016, Ammann joined the Lyft board of directors when GM invested $500 million in the company. He departed the board two years later.

Feeling inspired that this is the right guy to lead our long term business. He won’t stay ina role long enough to see anything finished. What has LCS actually accomplished under him? Nothing has been brought from idea to profitable project under him.

How is this guy an expert in anything oil and gas or LCS related? Apparently after two years we should all be level 4 on our SDA forms. Heck apparently to get a job here you can be level zero

I don’t know what is worse. Dan getting moved to ruin upstream or the blatant cronyism of him bringing in his buddy to lead LCS. Looks like some kind of hostile takeover and that next Dan will be wanting Darren’s job.

FYI, Liam is 62. Those guys need the blessing to retire before 65. Even then it doesn't happen right away. That is unless he was told to retire

This exemplifies that Career development is a big failure at Exxon. HR, S&D are just money wasters and all of them should be let go.

Bart will report to Dan, crazy right? An investment banker running upstream, hopefully he is able to atleast cut the bullsh-t and get rid of stupid EMTEC

aalso, btc RULES

Snake oil salesmen are going to dominate EM going forward m. Track record of these execs - Cruise money losing dumpster fire. Lilium - delisted from stock exchange. LCS I think we all know what bucket that is headed to. And these are the people to “fix” a 100 year old company that is still among 10 largest in US? Huh?

Makes sense. Carbon Capture and Storage is an Upstream activity longterm and should be stewarded by someone who understands sustainability.

Also, DM is extremely knowledgeable in EV's and Lithium Extraction. Direct Lithium Extraction in the Smackover area in Arkansas is managed by Upstream, not Low Carbon Solutions.

Exxon’s Upstream President Liam Mallon to Retire After 34 Years (he is probably 65 years old which is the mandatory retirement age for Executives).

Having been under Dan’s leadership in LCS…get ready for him to wreak havoc to upstream. He’s vying for the Chairman’s position. He’s known for leaving destruction in his paths…

Missed the opportunity to place a BTC at executive level.

I think a BTC hire would have more Upstream experience and also outperform Dan.

Why not? Company’s only strategy at this point is cut opex by offshore labor arbitrage. May as well take a few higher risk / higher reward flyers

Look at the internally developed, greedy, entitled, intellectually vacant, steaming hot garbage piles of “executive” that we have developed. Ever talk to one and hear anything approaching a usable business idea? Literally a tallest dwarf competition

Makes sense to me. The corp knows we haven't had organic growth in the upstream since West Africa outside of the Guyana fluke. We A&D'd Permian growth. DA has delivered a growth narrative the past 2 years in LCS. Typical of XOM 'career management' that a shrewd exec moves before their business line crashes and burns (an eventuality with the new US admin coming in to disembowel the IRA). In my mind this will bring us to an eventual Boeing moment as MBAs and Finance pros manage an engineering company to the ground. Oh well.. my investment in the long term success of this company is zero because I get zero tangible long term investment in myself.

Certainly should make the internally grown HiPos worried which is great. I used to think the most important thing XOM produces is oil. Then I realized it was managers. Now I see we can just A&D managers too. lol

The corporate VP’s with zero Oil and Gas experience now outnumber the ones with O&G experience.

Zero board members have Upstream experience.
