Long rumored and now confirmed Intel finally got its first break in the competitive modem business. It won a spot in the latest and greatest Apple iPhone.

Of course now we know the modem was from the old Infineon purchase group and fabricated by TSMC in an older process mode. Intel fanboys and press were all gaga that this was a huge win and a sign of intel technology leadership.

Now confirmed the chips is slower than the Qualcomm modems. What a joke, what a win... BK and Murthy must be proud. This right up there with the spectacular competitive products in tablets and phones.

Anytime intel had real competition it has come in second or worse. Intel only can survive when it has a monopoly as the whole management was raised to flourish in a monopoly. Modems, memeiry and IoT guaranteed to be fails like tablets and x86 phones as nothing has changed in the company

You think the buyers really blame Apple, phone still works and they may be unhappy. Look at the apple stores across the world and who is hiring and has positive brand mojo and who doesn't.

Apples price for the modems and cpus are amazing and better than what any other company gets.

They are pretty happy and they can dictate prices going forward to Qualcomm and intel. Intel is the stupid and powerless supplier that is laying offf

IMHO Apple looks more foolish and inept than Intel. You are telling me that they did not do a performance test prior to deciding which modem to use in the Iphone7?

We all know that 7360 (Smarti5) used in iphone7 was from the old Infineon design, it is way behind the competitive products from Qualcomm and Mediatek. Infineon did not go bankrupt without good reasons......
