When will Exxon realize one simple thing?

How you treat the employees will shape the future of the company. If you show us we matter, we'll make a difference. Mistreating even one of us will make you lose the respect of the rest. It's that simple. The fact that excellent employees with decades of experience are worried about upcoming PIPs shows that Exxon has completely lost sight of this.

If EM cared about employees, the NSI ax would not be an annual event mentally tormenting 50% of us even though 5% is the layoff target.

The annual layoff combined with forced ranking is affecting teamwork, cooperation, trust, and teamwork.

EM Management do not care how employees feel. They keep importing BTC personnel and assigning us to train our low cost incompetent replacements.

Maybe EM will care after all of us that make the corrections to BTC garbage deliverables are all gone and an Exxon Valdez size event occurs.

The company doesn’t care. Sr leaders really see us all as easily replaceable cogs in a wheel. They are focused only on shopping for the cheapest replacements possible.

I think the issue is "they" (aka DW) doesn't see the ranking system as demotivating; he sees it as something that should motivate you to do better if you receive a ranking that is lower than you feel you should've gotten.
Of course, being that he probably never was ranked out of the Top 10%, he indeed would believe the system works great. "They" are simply completely blind to the fact that probably 4/5ths of the folks find the ranking feedback demotivating and many start looking for other jobs or quiet quitting or both.
Unfortunately, until earnings drop below our peers or God forbid, we suffer a major safety incident, the headcount reductions will continue.

Some corporate cultures exacerbate employee anxiety to an unhealthy degree. Supervisors pray on workers who are overachievers, driving them to work unhealthy hours but it’s never enough. Then there is the unhealthy cut-throat culture to out-rank your fellow worker or to make a grab for that highly visible project. To row with the boat, you will be ask to distort your sense of integrity to make things happen for those up the chain. To protect yourself, perhaps you disengage with others…never to inquire into their well being? It’s a vicious cycle because eventually you will convince yourself that this is normal behavior to belong to the cult of WAEM.

The company will never realize anything because it is a heartless entity. But people have choices. What will you choose?

They mistreated so many during COVID by PIP.
Nobody cared! The supervisors shamelessly communicated the PIP and are still working. The coworkers didn’t care to ask as to how those that were PIPed were doing. Most EM employees are so egotistical and self centered.
So, saying “Mistreating even one of us will make you lose the respect of the rest” is full of beans.
