Thread regarding Williams Cos. layoffs

How many women have been terminated or demoted?

There are lots of comments about age and race regarding the OKC closure. What about gender? The energy industry is a male dominated field but how does Williams compare to their corporate peers regarding gender?

Someone mentioned work life balance. If that means coming in at 9:30, taking an hour lunch and leaving at 4:00 (or noon on Friday), then you are correct. There is a LOT of work life balance.

Read a lot of articles about why women drop out of technical fields after entering the work force. Interesting to read that some wanted to help out society but where disappointed in when they found out what the corporation was about, "making money". Welcome to the real world, that's life.

who needs the rat race and games being played at Williams. Try a smaller company, if you can produce and work hard, you may thrive.

i was thinking today the great thing about Williams is, it has a great Life work balance, take advantage of that and be happy. Not happy about the terminations, but that;s life.

Seriously? No gender discrimination? Every single position that has been announced on that home page is a white male. All female VP's except one was demoted or axed. Yes they recruited a lot of us but many of us won't stay long in a company where it is clear that diversity is no longer valued.

I think we are talking about entry level and mid level oil & gas positions, the glass ceiling at the top may have not been broken yet. I know for a fact recent women graduates are having no problem getting offers and are typically entered into the top rotational programs, whereas it is tough sledding for others in this job market.

I don't know what area you are in, but all the women in leadership that I used to interact with are gone or in lower roles. I see women directors demoted to managers and women managers demoted to regular positions. All the women execs besides Robyn Ewing are just GONE and replaced my white men.

True, there is less women than man. But also, we tend to take better care of them as they do not have numbers. So, I'd say - no #genderdiscrimination @ Williams but not sure about the energy industry.
