It’s come to my attention that there were a few techs that were told this week that they have to do standby on Labor Day. There were told if they cannot do it then they have to find someone to take it. This clearly violates the terms & conditions that are stated in their CBA & their union was notified of this immediately. There is nothing in their contract that says standby is mandatory & that techs are required to do it if a supervisor asks or tells them. This is how it starts, supervisors will say you have to do a day of standby & before you know it there asking you to do a week of standby. All union shops should know what is in their contract. If mandatory standby is not in your contract & a supervisor tells you that you have to do standby, then you need to make your union aware of this immediately. We all need to hold Altice accountable if they try to violate any part of any union shops CBA. Thank You. Stay Strong 💪!!!

ATS did Not do away with standby, its 1man only so of its a fs tech, with a maintenance outage,GOOD LUCK...
I volunteered to work the holiday.Made very good money too.Sometimes you need to think of the rest of youre team(OSP),and youre customers.Would you enjoy not being able to stream music w youre family on a holiday, because some derelict tried to shoot a quail on a fiber line?Quit complaining about what you do not have and be thankful for what you do have.
My man did you not read previous post? He said that their contract doesn’t say anything about FS techs being required to do mandatory standby. Their contract only says what the pay for standby is, that’s it. Don’t know what your talking about when you say “standby pay is blank”. That’s clearly not what he said. BTW, they are right. If the company wants to enforce mandatory standby then they should have had that included in the contract. You cannot enforce something that is not in a CBA.
Ok so it just randomly says “standby pay is blank”????? Lies. Show us...
FYI I’m one of the techs who was there at every meeting while negotiating the contract. I know the contract word for word & it absolutely says nothing about mandatory standby. Pay for standby is the only thing written in their contract. Only if it’s in their next contract, can the company enforce mandatory standby. Until then, the company cannot & should not be telling FS techs that they have to do standby.
Not true. Standby is in the contract. That’s why it mentions the pay. Stop skimming through the contract and actually read it. Line for line. Not sure why you’re looking for something to be mad at...
Of course it’s not OSP. Everyone knows they’re the dumping ground for all problems.
You referring to fs not osp right?
Everyone is missing the point here. Standby has been gone for over 2yrs for all of Long Island. That shop is a union shop & ratified their contract a few months ago. I’ve read their entire contract & nowhere does it say anything about techs doing mandatory standby. The only thing their contract says of standby is what the pay would be if a tech were to do standby. Their union was notified & are currently investing it. The union & the company have to adhere to what is in the contract & mandatory standby is not in their contract. When that supervisor told those techs that they have to do the standby, he violated the terms & conditions of their CBA. One of the many reasons why many shops went union was due to the fact that this company was abusing standby. It used to be for critical calls & down drops only & techs would never get called out everyday, but before you know it guys were getting called out everyday for jobs that were definitely not critical & staying out sometimes till 12-1 in the morning. I remember many times techs being told that they are not finished until they hit their 16th hour of work. This is one of the million reasons why shops went union. If it’s not in the contract the company cannot enforce it. Under no circumstances can we let this company get away with violating anyone’s contract. If we let them get away with it then what was the reason for voting union in?
In the Morris shop we have no standby . Why is that some shops have it and done don’t ? Don’t we all work for same company? And yes that’s exactly how it use to be here , if you had the week you were on for holiday but also it was meant for all services out not to clear the pool and do installs . But yet in the end here at Morris that’s what they were using it for .
Thats the way it is on long island no stand by
Didn’t ATS do away with standby?
You sound misinformed and on some steroid power trip. That is not what was said. If your depot has standby and the week you are supposed to be on standby falls on a day that is a holiday then you will be on standby for that holiday. Example: you are on call for the week of Aug 28-Sep 3 and since Labor Day is on September 2 you are responsible for that holiday. If you don’t want to cover that holiday then find someone to take your week. Always been like that.
