Thread regarding Advance Auto Parts Inc. layoffs

Advance Auto People Are the Best Part

It sure doesn't seem that way. Most of the people that were released had 20 plus years, This is a business that requires knowledgeable people. Until they understand what we do and more important what our customers need we will never win. You cannot cut your way to profits. Long term the problem gets worse. Your best people are gone and the rookies dont know what to do. Its a real shame we dont get it.

Your right you can cut your way to profits. It will look good to the stock holders but it isnt something that will sustain itself. The problem is when you go that direction you have employees that wonder whos next. Moral is at a all time low, production is down. You keep cutting and the customer gets inconsistent service and people that dont care anymore. A happy workforce will do what ever it takes to win. The commercial accounts are running a business. if you dont perform they move on to the next supplier. You can cut expenses all you want but until you talk about the true problem nothing will change. Hire the right people to deal with our customers, give them great service at a competitive price and you will win. And finally the most import part. Advance is not the 500 lbs gorilla anymore. Actively go after new customers. Every year customers go away for many reasons some are our fault some are not. We cannot beat our competition if we are not going after new business. Take care of what you have now and always keep your eyes open for the next great customer. It really is that simple

You actually can cut your way to profits. It is that way of thinking (the inverse, spend your way to profits) that got us in the predicament we are in! Whomever said that is inexperienced in financial logic.

When you see the holistic picture, you can then see where the excess cuts were needed and why. We are collectively responsible for our demise. Likewise, we will need to be so for our success.

The competition has been wise, in that they know in order to be profitable, you must push the top line while being bottom line conscious. The latter is where we have failed...miserably.

Sales will come back. The company has to make the best of that opportunity. Stock holders expect return on investment. The only way to make that happen is to keep more money in our pockets.

Don't be mad when it's your stop on the train ride, just fet off at your stop and wish it fairwell, for it's occupants will reach their destination.

Haha ! I worked with those men that had twenty plus years in... they ate the profits ! Getting rid of fat within Corporate is the first step of my hope helping the people in the stores on the front line ! Only place I know where there's a cash tegister to take money in is the stores ! Corporate forgot their own Mission statement really involves our Teams and customers ! It's never been about what fear Loss Prevention instilled in stores or the way HR looks the other way 😂

The caliber of GM"s this company now employs is at an all time low. The standards being set by DM's is at an all time low. Sales are down, stocks are down. Not a coincidence.

Most of the cuts were of unnecessary middle management. They were jobs that were added and not needed. Hence, unnecessary expense. To many chiefs not enough indians. The knowledgeable, customer facing people are still here.

I couldn't agree more. I've worked for Advance on and off since 2001. You need people with a much better than average knowledge of automotive diagnosis and repairs. If my current store didn't have great people I can't imagine how bad it would be for our customers.

Unfortunately, the current execs in-charge don't understand the difference in AAP and it's competitors, is the fact they have knowledgeable car guys in those positions. AAP has continuously terminated those team members.
