Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

Construction lay offs

I guess management finally realized ffth project was deemed no essential and ran through dropping bodies today like a deranged child on an ant hill with a magnifying glass. Hands down most unprofessional company I ever worked for thanks god I started lining up interviews before this corona out break and hopefully will be able to find something once it’s done. This company doesn’t have enough money to offer to bring me back to work here again

I work in construction in the Suddenlink footprint and although no one can confirm any type of real plan, I am hearing of New Build projects and higher cost Infrastructure Modifications being shelved. I have even heard of an announcement coming early June with speculation of a buyout or merger, I have already prepared my resume but would like to know if anyone here has heard the same thing. The unknown is the worst, I would just like to have an idea of how much time we have left to prepare.

Union shops in the same boat. They stopped all the contractors in Hudson Valley - Wappingers and Hawthorne. We, as a union shop, at least have some say in who gets the axe, reverse-seniority out, seniority back in if and when it happens. They have to notify 2 weeks before they cut people, so we at least have that. FTTH got sent back to field service, 10 cable pullers gone - all 10 recent hires, 6 OSP techs gone. The union can't do much but hold the company to their word.

Amazing excell on Long Island seem busy enough taking food out of your mouth what a shame. This should be done by in-house not contractor hacks best of luck to you all.

what happens to the agreement to purchase Service Electric?

Ftth project is done indefinitely. All pullers will be let go. Field service techs on the project will either be let go or back to FS. There is no guarantee. Construction techs that were on FTTH have been let go. They did not go back to their prior roles. Union shops have a little more leverage because of contract agreements. Non-union, best of luck. You will not last.

The layoffs are not over. This is going to trickle down to all departments. They let OSP and fiber techs go in CT. Field service will be next if not already. They let go supervisors In wapp and Hawthorne. All supervisors are gone. Only a few left in HV and CT. They are trimming the fat on the ATS side to prepare the merge of ATS and USA back to one. By doing that, this preps for a sale. It’s more enticing to have lower head count and one company for a potential buyer. My counterparts at spectrum have already said they are putting in offers to purchase.

Not a single sup in any part of this company can do
anything to help in this situation. I'm sure a few sups are freaking out about this right now too.

Scruffynerfhearder

"And the SUPs have not balls to stand up for any of their employees and tell them no."

Do you really believe a lowly supervisor has any kind of say in any corporate policies or decisions?
Honestly man, you have no clue how things work. These decisions were made in French boardrooms long before the Dolans ever signed the paperwork. And you really think some F/S supe in Jersey can "tell them no"??

Wappingers and Hawthorne lost supervisors in all departments (construction, field service and fiber). Managers were laid off also. Last I heard, field service has not got their hazard pay when it was supposed to be in that last check. Spreading us even thinner.

West Nyack Depot. Roughly 3/4 of the Ftth construction department got the axe. No furlough, no offer to go to FS, nothing. Just a I really hate having to make these calls but as you know it was an executive decision and it hurts me to have to do this to you all during such time blah blah blah blah . You all know they got the emergency money for being “essential “ . And what’s the first they do? Go and axe their staff department by department. Just so their pockets stay fat and 3 floor mansions maintained. Shame on this company for doing what they are doing. And the SUPs have not balls to stand up for any of their employees and tell them no. Enough is enough. Has anyone even received their hazard pay? Or the 20% they were told they would get?? Probably not. It’s coming . Company is going under fast. News outlets should be told of the thieving this company has done. Collect as much as they can and then can their workers . Shame on them .
