Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

We can all stop complaining now... http://reviews.greatplacetowork.com/rankings/2015-fortune-100-best-companies-to-work-for-list

Hey guys, whole foods made the list of Best Companies to Work For again this year. We're #55! There are 2 other grocery stores that ranked well above wfm, but still we should be grateful that we're not the poor saps working for #56, LL Bean. So I guess that means we can all stop posting on this disgruntled employee forum and go back to enjoying our jobs, taking pride in our work, standing behind the culture and values that mean so much to us at wfm, and believing in the company.

I'm guessing Fortune Magazine compiled this list before the blindside layoffs and the subsequent fear and loathing, because it seems like having some sense of job security should be a big factor in being a "best place to work."

It doesn't matter what number they are on the list. It's all fake. It's pay to play. In the UK, Fortune's editors wanted to label it a "special advertising section" in order to comply with their journalistic standards. That's because it's not a real survey. The consulting company just mysteriously announces that these magical 100 employers are amongst the Best Places to Work. Spread the word. The whole thing is BS.

What number was WFM at last year and the year before?

The company that conducts the "surveys" is something like "Best Places to Work Inc.", a public relations consulting firm that specializes in internal marketing to employees and also publicity. I can't remember the exact name of the company that created this. Anyway they started as academic researchers and then saw the dollar signs realizing that there is commercial value in being one of the "Best Places to Work." Fortune gets to sell magazines and the consulting company essentially sells placement based on some secret methodology. My guess is that the "special sauce" consists of a fat check. Notice that companies such as Little Rock Plastics Fabrication, Neverheardofem Computer Services and Flyover Country Warehousing and Distribution never make the list. There are millions of employers in the US and probably some very good ones out there, but they'll never make the list unless they're of a certain size in the first place and then they are all probably clients of the "Best Places to Work" consultancy. The whole thing is phony.

The survey is a complete fraud. It's an advertising feature but not labelled as such. I will post a link to an independent news story about this topic later.

This is a farce!!! Info is still coming out s d will continue to do so. Ratings based on advertising not on the reality that Wfm promotes and justified workplace harassment. Come on Oprah let's do a second interview. Lol

Do they even speak to team members when they do these surveys?

I know a PBS who left (yay for severance!). She said that this exact thing happened. She also is from MA region. hhmmm...

Sure, any PBS if they're still around would tell you that these surveys are taken way earlier in the year. Also, the coordinators follow up once the surveys are out and pressure the PBS group to submit positive feedback. This happened in the MA region with a certain TMS coordinator just last year after a number of PBS backup positions were cut.

So in short, yes this Fortune Magazine list is a sham, at least for #55 and probably has been for awhile. We'll see how next year goes if the company is still around.
