Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Represented to MPT (MTS) history

I am a new here, so kindly forgive the lack of knowledge. Is there a career path for represented employees to become an MTS?

Would this be suitable for EM in today’s time? Someone mentioned this was done in one of the older legacy (heritage Exxon or Mobil) organizations, and is a reasonable incentive for continued development. Hoping to have some open feedback.

I know two wage employees, ops technicians in Baytown that moved into engineer positions after getting their (company-paid) degrees. One is now an SLS. I also know one EMIT person that was converted after something like 20 years, but it’s very rare unless you’ve done something specific like get a degree.

Certainly, back in the day, it could be possible, under the right circumstances, and a solid sponsorial relationship - to see a seaman make an Ensign. Or a corporal make a Left-tenant. All of that was possible.
Look at Rex T.
How high he climbed with a penny-anty past and a few russian pro-nouns.

Ironic that DW earns >$20 million with a Master's degree, but senior techs after grad school max out at <$100K? No CPI acknowledgment, no career prospects. #inequality

It's good feedback that there is some hope for career advancement, thanks. The OCA technical track flattens out early, so there is no reward for outstanding performance. A supervisor role doesn't have to be the sole way out to a better paycheck, right?

The effort involved in getting a PhD is surely not so much that an A-grade technician cannot overcome it. Many (if not all) of the senior technicians have superior analytical skills than a fresh hire. Why let us hit a ceiling so quickly?

Such a disparity needs to be acknowledged, and corrected. Even the Company would have been incentivized to have a skilled, experienced to long term employees.

Assume you're in Annandale and in CSR? I personally know of around 12-15 represented employees (CSR, PTD & RDSS) that have been promoted to MPT positions in the past ~8 years. I'm only aware of 2 that were PIP'd and left after the new performance evaluation system was implemented. You will have a harder time if you go into a technical position or a true business assignment (none of these exist in Annandale). You'll have more success if you go into a support organization (SHE or PPLE) or take a lab supervisor role.

The small handful I saw this happen to in 35 years were all terminated eventually. Good luck. We had phd people that were represented employees.
