I think they do not have to file a WARN notice if they give you a 60 day notice. That was the case last time I got canned while working for a competitor. All of this su-ks big time // cuts destroy the fundamental human need for security and predictability, turning stable lives into urgent scrambles for survival. Darn it.

Not a lawyer, but I think Aldi’s technically in the clear in this case? They fired 10 people without notice today and everyone else they’re letting go doesn’t have to leave until at least October. It doesn’t look like they fired enough of the workforce to trigger the Illinois WARN Act.

The answer is easy - yes, ALDI is legally required to provide advance notice (typically 60 days) if 50 or more employees are laid off at a single site. States like NY have even stricter rules.
