It's that time of the year. How many in your store are being told "you're capped, you'll get a lump sum of $800." We are also being told it's because they have to bump everyone to $15 per hour. Is this Macy's way of pushing out their long time employees who earn a little more than $15 per hour. Way to go Macy's, very sad.

To Whom it may concern . Why do they keep such a horrible manager on 2nd floor Macy’s Walt Whitman mall. . I worked there for 3 months in between school and another job. Worst experience I ever endured. The manager treated me so poorly I could not wait to leave each day I worked . Finally I left . She is just terrible.
Macys went down hill for sure . Shopped over many years at various stores . Macys has to be the worst . They really show they don’t care .
There is no help on the floor due to customer feedback. They said customers don’t like to be hovered over and bombarded with salespeople trying to upsell them on something. Is there help at Walmart, Target, Ross, Burlington, Kohls, JCP??
Macys changed for the worse . No service , no help . Management is clueless . Depend on associate to do there job and they take the credit and the money . Pay is cr-p for associates.
just to think 2024 Macys still open . What a joke . Company has cr-p for pay , cr-p for Managers and to top it all off no help ever. Guess it is true when Some associates work so hard , don’t abuse time , don’t call out they expect more and more. For all that gets raises and a decent pay check . Six digits . Just wondering if u really think u deserve that money . No u don’t . It is crazy u take all u can out of associate and take credit. Should really have an unexpected visit when she is there and see she is out for a pay check nothing else. Worked 2 weeks right before Thanksgiving . Met her and left . . It is the holidays . No staff , No help at all . What is this Company thinking ? I guess once again and again . They have No clue as usual . Work , work , work for what the pay is beyond pathetic and as associate if u r working u know u pretty much on your own . There r many many jobs but Macys is one of the many retail stores that treat there employees so poorly . Worked for a few months in between a full time job. Well what a mistake . For company as big as Macys why they treat some employees so bad . The employees that r on their phones disappearing , DO NOTHING get recognized . It is really amazing what goes on . They dont care because company allows it .
Working at Macys is a very sad place to work . Where to start pay is terrible . Terrible managers
Macys is really a sad and toxic environment to work in . You have some good long time associates that multi task plus plus for what to maybe if in their ways of making associate feeling appreciated might get a lousy .45 cents . For doing everything for managers to look good and the company . What an absolute disgrace. . How theyy except a pay check is beyond imagined . Its like stealing . But as we know the company likes to have that . Whats allowed is what happens . They don’t care . They can plan their days off , vacations etc. etc . Etc on company time.?For the record it is amazing manager gets in trouble is useless and is out for herself . Not a people leader just wondering how u keep people like that. Hope they close the doors . They don’t deserve to be open how they treat their employees.
So basically you got an $800 raise. Co workers who are not capped got .30 or .40 raise. So if they work 40 hours a week @.40 ( which most dont) they get $16 a week Raise, 16x 52 weeks is $832. So yes you got a raise, only your hourly wage is capped. Which is defined by your State.
$20 is a pay cap?

That’s $41,600 a year.
How many companies in the United States would be considered reputable if they capped a full time employees salary at only $41,600 a year,
A single mother cannot support children on $41K a year, it’s nearly impossible.
Why does retail continually underpay workers?
Why do retail executives literally steal money from workers in the name of a “bonus” ??
That’s beyond unacceptable!
Lump sums in the company need to be removed. They hurt long term employee morale and each 6 months when I get a new boss, I have to explain it to them on my next review. I'm tired of it.

I've been a Macy's employee for a long time. I am not a genius, but I can read a room accurately most times. It baffles me when I interact with Macy's upper level managers. How do these people hold onto a job? I've often said that I must be doing a great job. If I was an id--t, they'd put me in upper management.
And yes, I do realize that more experience equals more pay. Except at Macy's. I have seen (myself included), take on additional tasks these past 3 years while doing my own. I've covered worker vacancies until they are filled (if ever). I've learned how to do multitudes of new functions to benefit Macys. And our reward is a pathetic lump sum increase while new workers are onboarded with wages close to what we put in years to earn.
Many of us are coming off as angry. While that is true, I suspect many of us are disillusioned and betrayed. We gave Macy's our best. It was not given back.

20% of the people in the stores do 80% of the the work. The 20% who work are expected to do more and management thinks that is OK.
All you have to do to get promoted or get away without working is to -iss -ss that is the Macy’s way.

That is so true. Just ki#& a** and you will get promoted. Absolutely correct and if you do work hard, they just abuse you and take advantage and tell you to do more. I was promoted to captain when I complained about new hires who were friends with managers getting promoted. This was before the pandemic. I was told I would get the override and a pay raise which I never received. So for months, I was covering managers lunches, breaks, meetings, parties, you name it, etc.
Then the pandemic happened and when I came back from furlough, I was told captain positions were not in the budget. So basically I did all that extra work for nothing for months especially during the holiday season. When I would contact HR about when they would move me to captain, they would tell me to talk to my “people leader.” I spoke to the assistant store manager at that time many times and she kept making up excuses and saying it will happen soon. I blame myself for being d-mb. But now when they asked me if I wanted to be a captain since the positions opened up again, I just said no thanks. Don’t wanna go through that again. They will make me do extra work again and never give me my extra pay or even the means to do the job.
Don't do any work. Just ki** a** to the right people and you will be promoted. If you work hard you will just be asked to do more.
Recently retired with 29 years of service. For the last few years of my employment I got a whopping .25 an hour bonus that disappeared at the end of the year and then reinstated never accumulating to your hourly wage. When called back from furlough I was actually making less money because the .25 went away. More work and responsibilities for less money. I guess they achieved their goal because 8 months later I took an early retirement.
You call these people that go up in the company and make six figure salaries " kiss x-x". That how you have grown in the company. I see it every day.
Umm…. you do realize that pay is associated to the level of skill needed for job you perform, right?? Of course there’s a cap for every position. This is common practice in all business. You get paid according to the value you bring to the company. If you are staying in the same job for a long period of time without adding to what you contribute to the company, why should you made tons of money? Salary is based on the position…. not the time you have stayed stagnant in it. There are MANY people making six figures at Macy because they work their way up in contribution and responsibility. Try it… it actually works.

I've been with Macy's for 20 years. Today I got the pathetic lump sum. We're starting to hire people for $15.00-$18.00 per hour while slapping the longtime, loyal workers in the face. Macy's is a vile and disgusting company.

I think the pay cap is $20 at Macys, is that correct? But that doesn’t include cosmetics and fragrance, I knew one lady in Estée Lauder who was with Macys for like 20 years and she was making $25 a hour. But $20 is the cap for regular sales.
