Thread regarding 3M layoffs

More high octane talent leaves 3M

Found out today that a real superstar leader is leaving 3M. I know we've had a flurry of executives leave, but this one is really concerning. This was a super high potential leader, who was being promoted up fast, leading the PFAS transition for 3M and given the visibility and impact of the role, probably would've been one of the youngest VPs 3M has ever had - and she still left despite all that championship!

I find it very concerning that the succession plan that was actually capable of doing the work needed to turn this ship around is leaving while we hire more SVPs who don't know the company...This announcement is depressing, particularly because she was an excellent people leader - resourceful, intelligent, caring...we have so few with that combination left...Big loss for us....

It's fair that JG16+ to continue to have the LTI as they should bear the stress when the targets couldn't be met. Since more good 14/15 folks will either leave or quiet quit anyway. Good luck to the JG16+. You will have the face the impossible targets laid down by BB&company

Awww man! Is this verified? She was the best manager I ever had. Personally negotiated my promotion when I moved on from my BB role and used her personal network to place several other BBs who got laid off. But getting over my disappointment, good for you Div!

And to the previous poster, everyone has a different perspective, but we’ve personally observed her ability to move the organization in the face of tremendous resistance to change, that’s why she’s extraordinary. She’s creative and she values people. Anyway - Fly Divvy fly!

I wish DV all the best, but I don’t think she was extraordinary. Promoted without any real experiences to draw from.

All JG 16 and above received a pretty chunk of stock bonuses, the same time that they took away the long term incentive award for JG 14 and 15. It kind of feels good to know that the incentive wasn’t enough to keep the good ones! Feels like some kind of justice.

I don’t think it’s KC (Karina Chavez?) my guess is original poster is talking about Divya V from the R&D organization? Three thoughts on this:

  1. I hope this is fake news, since her LinkedIn profile still says 3M (maybe she hasn’t left yet) and also, she’s awesome, so would be good to retain her.
  1. If it’s not fake news, then good for her! She is one of the smartest people I have ever worked with and deserves to be recognized by an organization worthy of her.
  1. Varys’ chum is spot on - everyone is up in arms about some work policy or new SVP- the real problem is that there is no succession plan for senior leadership when people like DV leave - it’s the same old same old.

This is actually a very relevant conversation - I don’t know who you’re talking about, but I think people on this forum keep discussing C suite and president changes, not realizing that the working leaders are quitting…the brain drain is real…also don’t forget these folks if they are JG16 and up, received retention bonuses. And they’re still leaving….

It’s probably because she realized being a VP at 3M means diddly squat. If she’s really as talented as you say, she also must be smart enough to realize you can’t accomplish anything if your peer group is a bunch of incompetent yes men waiting to cash out. The best like to compete and collaborate with the best.
