Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

It's happening

Got confirmation that layoffs are happening. They will start notifying the impacted people in the next 2 weeks. Sept end will be their last paycheck but they will depart in 2 weeks after notification. Performance appraisals will be delayed to exclude the impacted folks. Some centers like NJ, MA may be cut and few folks will be asked to move to SD or Boulder office. Folks over 55 will be asked to take a voluntary package with some goodies thrown in to make it attractive. Good luck folks.

Since early this year, there has been rumors of 15-20% layoff. Until now, it never happened except maybe a small number of teams. If there is layoff this time and ahm is on Aug 8th, maybe not a big one given only 6 days apart.

The macro situation seems to be turning around, Intel numbers are not bad. I hope this reduces the % target. if you are impacted, take it as a sign for a change that was needed. Short term may be a pain but will most definitely improve the situation in the long run. If you really like your role and Q, then re-apply when things improve. So many cases of folks coming back.

They can’t go by age, they would get sued for discrimination.
The cuts are in redundant positions, primarily in engineering.
If your department hasn’t gone through a reorg, it will very soon.
The biggest numbers will come from people who didn’t return to the office or remain remote. If there is an office near you and you aren’t going into the office, you are basically saying your position isn’t needed.

Any where from 15 to 20% in NA. Minimal impact in QIPL. But they will make some scapegoats layoffs in India just to show that the layoffs are global.
