Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Qualcomm definitely got hit with many layoffs yesterday, May 17

I don't know the total numbers, but my colleague of 10 years (who's been with the company for 25+ years) was given notice yesterday. I am waiting to hear of others. Rumor is they are targeting long-time employees to get the biggest reductions in overhead.

Sad QCOM continues to lay off older employees, definitely age discrimination, not to mention very short cited when it comes to competency of company. Just managing bottom line at expense of what is good for the company, execs dont care they get paid $10 or $20 million a year depending on stock price. cant remember if 80 or 85% of RSUs go to execs,

Age+years of service criteria was only for voluntary retirement. Layoffs focused on high paid workers in the U.S.

From reports here seems like a small number impacted. Nothing huge like so many seemed to think or want people to think anyways.

Why would anyone work for the same place for 15-25+ years?? Gone are the days of one-company careers. You do yourself a disservice by not moving around every 5 years.

If age + years of service >=80, then they target those who are retirement eligible.

OP seems correct. I know several affected people. They have worked for 15 to 20 years in SD.
