Covered in other posts but Meta did a 5% layoff. PayPal chose 5% threshold for "Needs Improvement rating". Is this a coincidence or trend for earnings? If any planning is happening, its at highest levels. No assessments done this year about justifying how critical areas are for my department. Its really hard to know but if anyone has heard anything welcome comments.

The email sent by the CEO is somewhat reassuring. The subject as well as the end of the email leads me to believe that there are not going to be layoffs this time.
I could be wrong...
Severance varies depending on country, salary, tenure, etc.

Depends if your a dou--e of a team leader or your just an agent. There’s about 2k in the difference.
How much severance do you get in the EU?
Many people stay if they've a chance of a big redundancy payout. It would be foolish to leave. Packages in many European countries are BIG.
Who sh-t and made you Alex Chris of course there is someone making us stay in PayPal. The bank and other collectors of bills. Can’t just walk away empty handed ;)
No news any region
People are telling lies
If you got news say where and what?
Otherwise stop fear mongering
Btw if you do not like it at PayPal then leave. No one is making you stay here
I think "vapour" might be right! I have a feeling nothing is coming for us this time around - the expectations will worsen until we are either forced to work like robots or we leave.
Roll on email!!! 🙏🏻

Ahhh this is all too exciting!! what's the latest?
Christ the night - the suspense is ki-ling me
"It's going to take each and every one of us to bring this mission to life".
Plus or minus a few here and there?
No emails here yet on the morning of the 28th, just an email from CEO, so thinking Thursday now.
To those who did get an email what country and org are you in?
Yes, it includes "Important Team Update." Does this indicate a reorganization in progress?
Did the EU meetings have subject "Important Team Update"
3pm eu
Have emails started? What country and org please
Or if a people manager, somebody on your team is being let go - you wont know until you join which it is - got this message as manager but think employees getting packages might receive get same message. But yes - this looks like what I saw in 2024 "Subject: Important Team Update". Kind of hoping we would know Tuesday but possible they will do on 30th (Thursday) if happening at all. Really hard to tell which way wind is blowing this year.
Yes, have the emails started?
So, if you receive one of these emails, does it mean you're being laid off ??

Subject: Important Team Update
Hi, Please join me to connect for an important.....
Actually could be any day between Tuesday - Thursday this week but before Friday most likely. Last year in 2024 was last Tuesday which fell on 30th. Year before in 2023 think it was a Monday 30th thru Tuesday 31st in waves but not sure if memory serves me. Could be Thursday 1/30/25 again so keep that in mind. Would keep possibility open its date bound, not day or week bound. Not expecting today (Monday 1/27/2025) - unless it will be afternoon event which would be new.
tomorrow morning expect Team invite
Nothing yet and it’s the27th of Jan, unless something is coming next week…in Ireland wfh
Original topic was has anyone heard any chatter - guess answer is still "no". Which is fine. For some they don't want this and for others it would be a gift. I understand both points of view. Don't expect anything to change Monday on insights but if anyone does hear something that might show where wind is blowing before Tuesday morning, would appreciate a post. Otherwise, like many others in US, will begin watching inbox after 8 AM PST for invite that's says "Organizational Announcement" or " Important Team Update" or something vague like that. This will mean either I am directly impacted or if a people manager, one of my direct reports. Thanks everyone for your comments over the last week.
This company is rotten to the core.
You are lying because you said you have good leaders. They don’t exist in PayPal at the moment. Wait till Monday and you will find out what this company is about
Just in support of the people who like their jobs, I love my job too. I have a great team, great leader and the work is good. Its just a sh-t company and agree that fear of redundancy is stressful but personally i have made my peace with it. If I wasn't happy in my job I wouldn't hang around. Certainly wouldn't wait for a redundancy which may never come and spend my days complaining about how much i hate my job. There's too many people that hate their job and do nothing but complain about it and bring others down with their negativity. If you hate it so much and believe there is better out there then move on. I suspect these same people will find something to complain about no matter where they go.
Rest well my friends. May odds be in your favor, whichever way you want. Hope it doesn’t happen but if it does, we will survive. Few more days to find out.
Yeah well your story adds up for about 1% of people in PayPal currently. They also lied about the results of the glint survey to ensure it would have no impact to investors or the share price. It’s coming next week anyway the cull so just a few more days to listen to headless managers.
Sad to hear people feel trapped in job they don't enjoy. I am blessed with wonderful team, great stakeholders and doing work I am passionate about in technology. There were a few times I questioned my fit not because of any of those factors. Always more about politics and company culture brining me emotional discomfort. If your not happy, might help to work with career coach to figure out what your path should be or recruiter to find path that if you already know. We are not a victims. Each of us makes our own choices and Faustian bargain with our employers.
What I wonder is who is the sick minded creature that actually likes there job in this shithole these days? It’s a doctor you need to see
When I joined PayPal, the company had a soul and I shared in the vision Dan and John had of striking balance between profits and creating a sense of community within and outside of PayPal through our culture.
But the Board of Directors have chosen to go a different direction with leadership changes which will address concerns of investors. Unfortunately has resulted in changes to the culture.
The we are now faced with moral decision as an employee of putting our self interests first and aligning with the changes or taking the scary step of moving on to something new. But its still our decision.
For me finding I don't have the moral flexibility to succeed in the new company culture. So I am planning my exit when financially optimum this spring. Severance Package in my case would be welcomed.
Leave you with this thought, if you have to worry every year about being put in bottom 5% and fired. If you have to be afraid to share your concerns or ask for help from leaders because it will become we-ponized during performance cycles, is this the right job?
For the person wondering if paternity leave protects you from layoffs. The answer is no, unfortunately. If it is a re-org and they can show that you would have been laid off no matter what- for example, mass layoffs, a department eliminations, etc., then not even FMLA coverage saves you. I had a peer on maternity leave and they eliminated her department, she was informed right after having the baby that she had no job. Another peer was one day into her sabatical when mass layoffs started. And she was laid off as well. But she did get her sabatical rolled into her severance package. Incidentally, I asked an attorney about the FMLA coverage parameters bc I have approved FMLA and wanted to know if I would be exempt from layoffs, so I know if they can prove the layoff would happen to you or your department no matter what your status or performance is, then FMLA makes no difference at all.
I am starting paternity leave after omorrow. Paternity leave should protect employees from layoffs? They wouldn't lay off someone who just had a baby… would they?
I checked with a reliable source - https://magic-8ball.com/
"Will PayPal have layoff and will I get severance package next Tuesday"
Response "You may rely on it"
Funny who ever said tomorrow (Thursday 1/23/2025). I also circled Thursday and Tuesday 1/28 as potential announcements dates also if something is happening. Really interesting is leaders I trust at Sr. Dir and below, really have no idea what's happing this year. Also when I inquired to my VP about this, they could neither confirm or deny if something is happening. Who knows.
It’s coming tomorrow be prepared.
There is some chatter on blind, but nothing concrete, and also not as much chatter compared to last year around this time.
So it's 50/50 at the moment.
