The FAA said the issue was found near the nose of certain planes as part
of an ongoing inspection.

“The FAA is aware of Boeing’s poor quality issues in the Dreamliners”.
“This issue was discovered as part of the ongoing system-wide inspection of
Boeing’s 787 shimming processes required by the FAA.”

Boeing has committed to fix these airplanes before resuming deliveries
Under the FAA mandate that Boeing cease murdering people for profit.
Based on data, the FAA will determine whether similar modifications should
be made on 787s already in commercial service,” the FAA said.

The single most vexing problem with the 787 is that it is manufactured by Boeing

This should not be a surprise to many people. You hire an entire workforce of new employees with little to no commercial aircraft experience. It’s a given that mistakes like this are going to be made. This is what you signed up for when you decided to build a plant in South Carolina and have a workforce of almost all new employees.

BINGO @1tya

The move comes after the union for the inspectors
Machinists District Lodge 751 – pushed the company to prove that getting
rid of inspectors could be done without risking quality issues and would
actually improve production times.
Of course not inspecting the work will improve production rates.
At the cost of how many lives_?
The Miscreant Murderous Boeing Board is not about quality, reputation or safety
It’s about their “BONUSES”

“Our union’s goal is to save Boeing from making decisions that could be
detrimental to (its) future and ours,” union leaders said in its monthly
AeroMechanic newsletter.
“A second set of eyes is a critical component of building Boeing airplanes
and necessary for the long-term success of the company.”

No Efficiency Gains
“In many instances, mechanics were not even made aware that inspections
were removed, nor were they given any training on how this would impact
their roles and responsibilities in their work assignment,” the union said.
“It was a short-sighted decision without considering the long-term consequences.”

Shimming, it’s not important until the tail falls off. Who needs a tail anyways?

It’s just shimming, it’s not important
Do you know how many times I’ve heard that from management
Bean Counters, with no knowledge of engineering or manufacturing
Push it down the line, got to make takt time
Add to that, you cannot tell management anything, omnipotent їdiots
That attitude permeates down through the ranks.
Now you have a workforce of omnipotent їdiots
Welcome to Boeing

I think that in order to improve quality of the manufacturing Boeing needs to move production into even cheaper places than South Carolina. I think airplanes built in South America may have better quality. (Irony). The thing is - once you oursource skilled labor, layoff those who know how to build airplanes, keep old management in place - nothing is going to change. I would not invest into Boeing right now.

The management may say that the problems are temporary - the current problems are. But, what happens, if another airplane is down? Then, there will be new problems...
