WalMart and Sams Club Coronavirus Policy

Way to lead Walmart! I hope all companies do as good as we or better. It'll help the worker...

This was announced today after news broke that a WalMart employee in Kentucky has the coronavirus:

1 - Effective through the end of April, the attendance policy is being waived for associates who feel ill or unwell to come to work (meaning no points will be given for calling in sick)
2 - Associates who call in sick may use regular PTO or PPTO for days missed due to illness
3 - If an associate contracts the coronavirus and is recommended quarantine, WalMart Inc will pay the associate for the full 14 days of quarantine. On top of that, if more time is needed per care giver order, associate can miss up to and be paid for up to 26 weeks of time. ALL EMPLOYEES (full time or part time) are eligible.

I applaud these changes. Though I really wish they'd let me use those 200+ sick hours from the pre-PTO days I have sitting there...

During this time employees at the Sam’s Club in Logan Utah have been fired for calling in sick. Nice to know you are allowing managers to violate this policy with impunity.

Absences only waived for Covid 19 issues.

All this is incorrect. Only Covid 19 situations are excused.

So I felt unwell yesterday and decided to call out and apply my PPTO to my missed shift. I must've only had 7.5 to apply to my 8. I still caught a half point today. My manager is a flunk who avoids conversation w associates. Any ideas how I fight this .5 point? It was only after that I'd seen the notice of updated policy after I'd called off. So it is in effect. Why did I catch half point?

Yes god forbid this company lets you use your earned/accrued sick hours if your actually sick with the corona virus. Those sick hours were stolen fair and square...

Yes, agree to basically all of the Walmart doubters. This company has zero credibility with me and looks like the majority, certainly anyone that knows the history of WM.

Somehow, someway, they will spin it to their advantage and bottom line. And there will be punitive penalties. They love to do that with a grin on their face. Just like the movies. They grin while they twist the knife.

Isn't numbers 1 and 2 contradictions?

1 - Effective through the end of April, the attendance policy is being waived for associates who feel ill or unwell to come to work (meaning no points will be given for calling in sick)
2 - Associates who call in sick may use regular PTO or PPTO for days missed due to illness

Walmart is only doing this because they want to appear to be a responsible and caring company for everyone that doesn't know the truth.

Walmart just doesn't want anything to damage their bottom line. They could care less about their associates.

In the immortal words of Admiral Ackbar, 'It's a trap.' The Home Office has lied to us for long I wouldn't trust a GD thing they tell us now. There's probably some kind of loophole they will exploit to cull the herd even further.

I am not scared for myself but I take care of my father who is soon to be 68, retired, and disabled. He is on the highest concentration of oxygen 24/7. But he still becomes out of breath moving from room to room. If he got this he would immediately be in critical condition. It would be life threatening. So I have a slight anxiety about bringing it home and infecting him.

New COVID-19 policy to support the health of our associates

Thank you for all you're doing to serve customers and members during this challenging time, as the U.S. deals with COVID-19 (coronavirus). We know how busy you are, and greatly appreciate what you're doing for your communities.

As you know from previous notes, we are responding to the developing situation and planning for what may occur in the coming weeks and months. We wanted to share an update that a Walmart associate at our store in Cynthiana, Kentucky, has tested positive for COVID-19. The associate is receiving medical care, and her condition is improving. We wish her a speedy recovery. After learning of this case, we consulted with state and local health experts, reinforced our cleaning and sanitizing protocol, and, with the support and encouragement of the state government, the store remains open.

As more cases are likely to occur, we'll continue to take precautions and actions to keep our stores, clubs and other facilities clean and ensure the well-being of our associates, customers and members, following the protocols from our own health experts and relevant federal and state agencies. We are in close communication with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as other health organizations, and have plans and procedures in place.

Your health is our priority, and, as we've said before, we want any associate who is not feeling well to stay home. So, we have created a COVID-19 emergency leave policy, which is effective immediately, to ensure you have the support you need. Let us describe three different circumstances:

  • During this uncertain time, if you determine you are unable to work or are uncomfortable at work, you can choose to stay home. To ensure you feel supported making this choice, we will waive our attendance occurrence policy through the end of April, but please call in as usual to let us know In order to be paid for this time, you may use your regular paid time-off options.
  • If your store, club, office or distribution center is part of a mandated quarantine or if you're required to quarantine by a government agency or by Walmart, you will receive up to two weeks of pay, and absences during the time you are out will not count against attendance. We've chosen two weeks because it matches the recommended time for quarantines related to this virus.
  • Should an associate have a confirmed case of the virus, they'll receive up to two weeks of pay. If they're not able to return to work after that time, additional pay replacement may be provided for up to 26 weeks for both full-time and part-time hourly associates.

We are also pleased that, in response to COVID-19, the Walmart Associates in Critical Need Trust, an independent charitable trust (ACNT), temporarily waived the eligibility requirement that U.S. associates be employed with Walmart for 365 days before they can apply for a grant.
