They are actively laying off corporate sales reps right now. At least they waited until after the holidays.

DC running only 5 days a week. Barely any OT. Not looking good for BTS sales. Rumors are more voluntary layoffs this fall and retail tanking into no come back. I'm relieved, actually.

They have demanded Essendant follow the same moves they are taking. We had random layoffs earlier this year and some departments lost half their people to furloughs until originally June, but they pushed it back to July.

Staples is the worst the way they treated their employees during this pandemic is an absolute disgrace and their district managers and vp's are another disgrace the way they talk to employees and managers is disgusting. They honestly think that they can go back to staying open till 9 at night total waste talk about not even having any Common Sense never mind a finance degree that's why they're in the situation that they're in because instead of listening and valuing their employees their bread and butter for this business they disregard it. This is why the business is where it is. They just dont get it or there employees!

There are some recent articles in the news about private equity coming under fire .
All you need to do is to read a few , and that should be enough to answer all your questions and motivate you to seek another employer.
Nobody needs to add drama and emotion to the situation. It’ s just business.
I would put some energy into job searches after the holidays .

Does anyone know how many positions have been eliminated during the restructuring?

BTW, retail stores are not the big revenue center that everyone thinks they are. The primary revenue stream now is B2B sales.

#storeclosures
It's like layoffs. A few hundred at a time.
Lease renewal dates are the driver for most.
All the very costly stores are already closed.

I find the whole thing rather odd as xx% of ALL profit comes from retail and mainly a specific time of year. I'm not saying what so competition doesn't learn something!

So when is the big announcement about all the closing stores for 2020?

Bring back Directors.
Fire nost C Level and VPs.
That'll get things done!

Why?
Eliminates BS
Puts power where it needs to be in Manager and Director hands.

50+ stores in Canada to close in 2020 and more than 400 in the US. Some key vendors pulling back product offerings as they assess their appetite for risk. China private label office under scrutiny to produce product winners or shut down. 4th quarter numbers are scary. Amazon feasting on the carcass.

I heard that all the BUs across Staples are behind target - not a single one is making their numbers. Staples Canada will likely buy up SBA Canada and then they can realize some cost savings through consolidation (warehouses, systems, leadership team, etc.) Doesn't seem like there is much of a growth story anywhere.

Staples Canada chose Shopify for new website. Disaster. Lost all their product reviews, no banners, stockouts everywhere, enterprise support backend doesn't talk to the new site.... All flyer pricing is the same as Amazon.ca everyday price. Shrinkage through the roof because no staff in the stores. Store renovations have stopped. Vendors refusing to do consignment anymore. Fired everyone that had talent. They are dead.

Pay close attention to what SP is actually doing. They have s—ed out all the equity out of Staples and now they have loaded it down with debt. That make a good recipe for maybe just maybe bankruptcy?

Staples is BLEEDING

Staples Connect - FAIL
Tru Red - FAIL
NXT Technologies - FAIL
Coastwide Professional - FAIL
Union & Scale (stupid name) FAIL
Perk - just plain funny - dumb

Brilliant management running out of great idea's.

SP reclaims total outlay of original investment. (even takes possession of last owned building - headquarters) - which it now "leases' to Staples. Lease 130 million per year!

Will not fly with an IPO (nobody wants it)

No where to go except bankruptcy. Takeover, Cutbacks, Key Targets Are Missed, Management is freaking. Executives are meeting like crazy. Information for grunts throttled to a trickle. The boss is inaccessible. Moodier and tenser too. Everyone’s getting nervous.

people breath in some reality...do ya think SP got to where they are by drinking their own kool-aid? do ya think they are as delusional as you and believe that they can sell stock publicly in a company that has so little value? Mark my words this ends in bankruptcy court.

You are right. All of the good ones that cared about the company and their teams success are gone or actively looking. Sales and profit continue to decline, not sure that there will be much of a business to take public. If company is sold off, not sure what they will be buying after it’s all said and done.

This company is dying. Everyone that was good has already left and more will continue to leave. Layoffs will continue.

Do you want to stay in a place like this?

They’ll wait until February to ensure that the severance hit doesn’t happen until the next fiscal year. Given that it’s common knowledge that Staples is going public in 2020, and that everyone is missing their numbers, they can’t afford to let this year get worse - so they’ll keep people until February.

why would the $$ worshiping trash running this scam wait until 2020? They will get much more enjoyment tossing the Bob Cratchetts out on the street BEFORE Christmas.

Obviously there will be layoffs The question is will they wait until after the fiscal year closes and give any severance or eligibility for bonus? Which in my opinion it would be completely ridiculous to grant bonuses
