Thread regarding Quest Software Inc. layoffs

The Impact of cuts on Effective working teams (OI)

One of our top team members, with several years of multi-domain experience, was abruptly terminated without any reasonable cause. There was no opportunity for knowledge transfer, no time for a proper farewell. We have hit a new low.

Why would anyone prioritize cost-cutting and singlehandedly disrupt well-functioning and efficient teams, directly impacting our customers?

The last mass attrition that happened when Quest acquired Onelogin, almost wiped out most of the experts that had the system knowledge and we started lagging terribly from out competitions in terms of the features. Other than just putting off the fire in last couple years, what new features did Onelogin add in comparison to its competitions? The recent mass layoff that wiped out the entire North America and EU workforce to move the product to an Offshore company with no transition or knowledge transfer, is the final nail to the coffin. All the terminated people will find a new better job but Onelogin will never be the same again and it will never recover from this shock. The system knowledge is lost. Unless the decision was taken to ultimately ki-l the product, this is a terrible decision from its management.

The mass layoff of engineers and support team will lead to poor customer support that was already very poor. This layoffs came at a time when customer issues were already on the rise. Some of those engineers were with onelogin for long enough and with no documentation of the products, the knowledge is lost for ever. All you have got now is the source code. One major security incident could potentially ki-l OL.

Tried to shift to the Quest side but no dice. Now looking for a new job. According to a Quest SD they will be doing the same there. Even a chance that Quest will become 3 separete entities. Color me suprised. Stupid decisions. Stupid management. Spend less on KO and PC for a start. Should be cancelled this year instead of celebrating failure up noses.

I am still an OI employee, hence anonymous.
How this was handled was a complete utter mess, and absolutely ruthless and cowardly. In many cases, teams were already overworked and underpaid. Now they are just extremely overworked, and still underpaid. It will not be long until the remaining employees realize this, and some have, that they will be on their exit strategy, they have no plan in place to keep the current talent that remains. OI is trying to follow the business model and FAANG with bringing in outsourced teams to help. The difference is, FAANG products were adequately developed and supported prior to doing this and this was to help growth. There are some great members of the ELT team, however the fact that this was pushed to a company where PN sits on the board for is absolutely a snake move. I feel awful for those caught up in the lies and were led to believe they were part of a family and team. Some of us truly do care, and we wish nothing but the best for our friends, peers that were let go.

I'm still an OI employee so please forgive this post remaining anonymous. I've had the privilege of working with Gaurav for many years in OI support. He built a support organisation with had effectively zero employee turnover, people who worked with him (never for him), stayed with him. That's a testament to his obsessive employee centric style of leadership and resulted in an extremely effective world class support organisation. In contrast the ELT has consistently made poor choices over the past 5 years, appointing leaders to OI who do not understand the organisation and they in turn appoint their equally poor choices to the next level. This results in the organisation stumblimg from crisis to crisis and ends up with the debacle which occurred on Jan 31. It would be nice to think that the top executive running this organisation would see that, step aside and allow a more capable leader take over but I don't think he has the vision or the courage to do that, so like Groundhog day, which was yesterday, these events are destined to repeat themselves in the not too distant future. And that makes me sad.

The upcoming days are going to be full of excuses… The reality is that the company was utterly destroyed and will have a really hard time to recover if it ever does.
Gaurav Raina was the best leader this company could have and now he and his valuable leadership are gone (probably somewhere better that can appreciate his exquisite talent and capability to encourage teams to succeed no matter how preposterous the situations imposed by obtuse minded C level personnel could be)
Mark and Co. just dug their own graves.
Good luck not to the ones that can only see profit on a spreadsheet and can’t even appreciate a valuable worker.

Mark Logan just told the company we (OI) have something the other companies don't have. 25 years of industry experience. LOL Mark, you just laid them all off! Mark doesn't seem to recall that laying people off with all of their experience and knowledge now makes it possible for a competitor to hire them. Maybe there should have been some transition, instead of dropping a zero day layoff. I wish Clearlake would take it out on the execs instead of the workers.

Over 100 Quest employees moved "on paper" to One Identity? When/if OI sells/splits off what happens to those people? Do they return to being Quest employees or is this the death of their job?

I am sorry for everyone who will leave the company. Despite all those hurdles we somehow manage to build and maintain the good chemistry in the teams. I think nice colleagues is the only thing that holds many of us back from leaving the company.

The layoffs mostly affect the identity security management BU One Identity. The amount of people being let go makes sure that both support and development are dramatically understaffed. This will not only have immediate impact on customers but will mid term ensure One Identity being out of business.

"How to ruin a company 101": Our team will not be able to recover from this; we were already on the edge before losing our colleagues. I have no doubt that many of us will leave, as they have left us with no other choice.

I'm so sorry for everyone who had to go. See you soon, but until then, I wish you all the best! You all deserve better than this!

I feel sorry for the Support staff at One Identity that will now have to pick up the work of those that were let go, like I was, during a 10 minute meeting on January, 31, 2024. I don't know the status of things higher up, but the manager that I had is a great guy and was beyond shocked when the announcement was made. My now former colleagues were amazing to work with. Absolutely the BEST Team that I have ever worked with. I am going to miss them, and the work (which I truly enjoyed).

"We grew this year, but not enough, so we had to reduce"

WTF? This management team has no clue what they're doing.

It's all about the short term now, 3 to 6 months. Cut costs to artificially improve profit, sell the business to the next poor su---r and so i goes. Just kicking the can down the road.

For over two years after the acquisition, they made their reduced engineers work day and night and as a reward, just laid them all off.

Sadly, the focus is often more on prioritizing short-term profits rather than maintaining efficient teams and retaining customers.

Well functioning, efficient and PROFITABLE teams no less.
Surprise! positions will probably be outsourced for pennies to Eeeendia, to a company that suspiciously the CEO sits on the board for. Like they were in the past.
