In my more than a decades experince, most PEs are self-serving and care more about their own reputations than the success of their projects. They hold numerous meetings( status reviews,planning,deep-dives )to keep themselves updated at the expense of wasting the time of engineers who do real work. They always send out ThankQ messages and congratulations emails for every team achievement to take credit for their leadership despite actually not contributing in any meaningful manner. They constantly ask for tasks to be completed sooner than they can be reasonably completed, even if they never understand the tasks themselves. This can be extremely frustrating for team members who are trying to get their work done,as it can create a lot of unnecessary overhead.
It is impossible to get a PEs input on important decisions, as they often do not have a deep understanding of any technical aspects of the project and are indecisive. They will hold many more meetings in the hope that people will reach a decision by consensus, but they will not be able to make a decision themselves. They are also unable to motivate team members. Instead, they often threaten them with escalations to get work done. They are unable to plan and track the progress of the project,so they need program managers to do it for them.
PEs are a drain on resources and a detriment to the success of projects. They waste time, frustrate team members, and jeopardize the project's goals. We should remove the PE role. Layoff the worst PEs and the make the remaining PEs into more capable PMs then we have currently

Few Product Engineers insist that all project details be routed through them before being shared with the team, which is hindering the smooth flow of information. Negative news is not being shared promptly with those who can address the issue until the PE's can present it in a way that enhances their reputation. The PE's are demoralizing teams, taking credit for other's work, favoring their sycophants, sidelining others and creating a distrustful work environment. This behavior is impacting employee's mental health, causing them to feel disheartened, wary, mentally exhausted, and as if they are constantly treading on thin ice.
What is PE? Principal engineer ?
what is PE?
PE and CE are getting hit hard in the next round. Huge shake up coming. All you CEs who have been sitting back thinking you’re irreplaceable, think again. Your VPs have been given a number.
There are too many Directors who do nothing. If all a Director or Sr. Director is doing is manage people and attend meetings, they should be let go. Directors and Sr. Directors should be leading their teams by getting in there and working along their team. Let the VPs strategize. We’re in a bad global economy, the Directors and Sr. Directors should be pitching in.
Do you remember a great US company called Motorola? CA is destroying the Qualcomm culture. He is not part of the future of Qualcomm and should be replaced immediately.
Director's in SD are worse than PE's. They dont code, dont design, dont decide, dont collaborate. They mismanage teams and take credit for other's work
PEs and PMs are just glorified secretaries of upper management. But sorry to break it to you, upper management isn't getting their hands dirty dealing with the peasants. So however inefficient, PEs and PMs continue their current regime simply by virtue of the fact that laying off low titled ICs does not impact upper management directly the way taking away their secretaries would. Do it just ain't happening.
VPs need PM because they need to collect information before they meet their upper management. VPs should collect the status report themselves without relying on other people such as PEs and PMs.
You completely underestimate a product engineer's major contribution. Font size selection in the weekly report. You think that's easy?
